Wow pepi, you're not a dick. Bowing down to the mods? I was the one who first mentioned to yknot to leave the kid alone, yet am I mod? I thought so; hold your tongue and stop being a little a$%wipe just because someone asks a simple question who wants to better their knowledge over something they're unsure about. What the hell's wrong with that?

PatM Tech inspector 1 mentioned a book on hotrodding volkswagon engines. I recall a book by a guy named John Muir. How to keep your Volkswagen alive for the complete idiot (nothing personal). While the book had zero "hotrodding" tips that I can recall, it was filled with good, practical, no-nonsense first-hand experienced-based knowledge. Not to mention a great amount of humor. I'm not offering to send it to you, but I can solidly recommend it as a roots-level VW volume. Very, very practical when anything goes wrong out there on the road. I think over half of the folks who owned VWs in the late 60s/early 70s owned this book. And it's humous enough to read from cover to cover and feel entertained in the process.

MrPhotographer06 alrighty

but now i need to know how to get the "30-40 hp " you speak of =-D

farna Everyone on the board deserves a degree of respect -- give it and you'll get it. Don't, and you shouldn't expect anyone to pay a whole of of attention to much you have to say. Would you be more likely to take advice from the guy who types in a respectful manner or the smart a--? Doesn't matter who's right, the "smart" guy has already injected a degree of doubt in his words.

Anyway, Cam, you'd be surprised at the boost another few hp will give you. When there's not much to begin with, even small increases are noticeable. Another 30-40 hp will make the bug feel like it has over double the power it has now, and is easily attainable. Should be easy to get 80-100 hp out of it at a reasonable price, more than that will get expensive quick. It's the same with American V-8s -- doubling the hp from stock on a run-of-the-mill stock car engine (something like a 200 hp 350) is reasonably easy and cheap, but once you start getting higher than that it gets very expensive. So yeah, it's expensive to get 150 hp out of a bug -- that's almost tripling the stock power though! It's costly to get 600 hp out of a 350 too.

^^^Some one woke up on the wrong side of the bed! Hes a kid just asking some questions, give him a break for Christ sakes.

On to the bug, 1835 kit, some 044 heads, a Holley 2bbl, Webb cam and a good ignition kit and your good to go. It will be quicker than you think for about 2k.
