Several of yuze guys have been asking about how my car is coming. Time has been in short supply lately, but I have been dedicating just about every waking free moment to it. The car has been completely disassembled for the last time. The body is off the frame and on a rolling fixture. I am hoping to paint either late September or early October when it cools off a bit. I have devoted a huge amount of time in getting the deck lid to fit correctly with even gaps. The body where the deck lid meets had also been consuming a huge amount of time. The glass work in the channels was very course and needed to be smoothed out first. I then layed on a good layer of Evercoat Rage and sanded most of it off to arrive at some nice looking deck lid channels.

The pics show the first application of Evercoat MX241 polyester primer around the deck lid opening and the front cowl area. The cowl area also required a large amount of work to smooth it up. There were portions that had very rough glass work with some divots and other defects that had to be corrected. The first coat of primer really shows up the things you don't really notice when you are roughing up the raw glass. It will reveal lots of pinholes that will be filled before the second coat goes on.

All the voids that existed around the front windshield opening have been repaired and it looks good.

I am next turning my attention to the door openings that also have some rough glass work to be corrected and filled. After the above items have been taken care of I will apply several heavy coats of MX241 to the entire body. It will then be block sanded again and a coat of PPG K36 2K primer/surfacer will be applied followed by another block sanding session. I have just about removed my fingerprints with all the sanding that has been going on :pain: . Following that a final coat of PPG K36 will be applied and wet sanded with 600 to hopefully arrive at a ready for paint body.

The fenders, running boards, gas tank cover have all been primed and block sanded once.

Just read through the whole post from start to finish and I have got to say....
GREAT JOB. That car looks amazing. Something like this should be posted with every car at a show, the majority of the public just has no idea what goes into these things we do. I've run across a few people who think buying a spray gun qualifies them to do an overall paint job on a show car as well. They learn the hard way real quick.
I'd also like to say Thank You for taking the time to take all those photos and posting them here with updates. It really helps give people hope to get their own projects done.
The more you can see it being done the more confidence it gives you to keep going with your own plans.

Again, Really great job. I hope you get many years enjoyment out of it and that people know what they are looking at when you take it to shows and cruises!

So Vince.... When you going to have that thing at the shows? Going to be a lot of unhappy owners there, going home empty handed.

Just getting cranked up on the interior work after a little medical problem :pain: . Hopefully in a month or so we will be driving it. I am hoping I can make it to the Fredricksburg Texas run.

Update???? :D
It is on the road, but interior is not finished yet. Recently got the VIN number certified so I could get my plates. I was worried about the inspection, but the two young guys were so busy asking and looking at the car they weren't interested in anything else :D . Still got to get the IFS aligned. Got a few bugs to work out. Noise in rear axle I think is the traction lock and I have an oil leak that looks like it's a rear main :pain: .

Found out that ******* bodies had a one piece headliner that they make for their bodies. Ordered one and it came in yesterday, looks like it will fit. Downside was it was $250 with $109 UPS charges

Well it's been a while since I have posted any pics. I recently finally had some time to get back on the car. I painted my console and re carpeted the interior, redid door panels (2nd design) and will start on the area behind the seat.

I heard a nasty rumor that Bart aka Steve sold his 34 Minoti project to some guy in Sweden :drunk: . Tell me it ain't so Steve :(

Got the console installed, sure is nice not to have all that stuff hanging under the dash. I have to find some kind of material to line the little tray in the console. The old HF 43430 gun is still going strong, probably have cleaned it several dozen times.

Holy Santa Clause Gonads!!! Looks really great! I've skimmed through you thread, researching the HF HVLP guns again, and last I saw this project was still being painted. Looks really good.

Question, is the floor made out of plywood or was that just a cover of sort? I know I've seen wood floors in similar models. I'm just curious why sheet metal wasn't used if the floor is indeed wood. To make it more period correct? Would you mind if I sent a few questions your way when it comes time to paint and wet sand my project car? I promise to bombard you with questions, as I've bought books and have researched this subject a lot, but it always helps to get feedback and to have questions answered by an experienced person such as yourself.

The paint job on your Hotrod Looks Great.
Since you used the Purple Spray gun can you tell mw what the overlap was you sprayed with ?
I knoticed no tiger stripes at all.
Were you overlapping more than 75% on each pass ?

thanks

Overlap was 50% or a little less. I was surprised at the lack of tiger stripes the PPG product exhibited. A lesser quality product probably would have tiger striped.

That is Amazing Only 50% Wow
Most paints would have tiger striped at 50%
I usually use 75%

And the paint you were shooting if I remember right had a Lot of clear in it...Almost like a candy ??

You did a GREAT Job!!! I think the guy holding the spray gun was GOOD
