i went to the auto wreckers today to find out where that shim goes and it goes in the back. so that is settled but got 2 more problems.
i installed new Energy suspension poly busings and it seems there is a big gap between the outer washer and the bushing. the bushing looks a bit smaller in length then originals,the instructions only say to reuse the original washers.
and the control arm shaft if its rotated 180 degrees(just turning it inside the bushings) it looks like the mounting hole is in a different location meaning it would raise or lower the shaft if put in wrong. it is such a small difference that i don't think i would be able to tell on a car at the wreckers unless i pulled the whole arm off.

I suggest looking around town for another 82GP, also should be the same for similar years in the Cutlass, Regal, Malibu. If the A arm looks the same, then the orientation of the shafts should be the same. As for the washer, that was a shim, it was supposed to go back where it came from. If there's a corresponding washer mark on the A arm shaft or where it mounted that's just plain lucky. Otherwise, when you get your front end realigned your alignment guy will figure it out. By the way, let him know about the possible washer misplacement so he doesn't spend an hour trying to figure out why your GP can't go left (or right).

upper control arm shaft
on my 82 grandprix The one thing i forgot to mark down when i pulled the upper control bushings is wich way the shaft was installed. is there a front or back to it? and on one side there is a inner washer im not sure wich side that goes on or is it even needed? i attached a picture and the washer is circled
