Doc here, :pimp:

Here Ya Go...

This IS for a 10SI or 12SI , Internally regulated Alternator..The Colors Should follow suit also.

LEAVE any "RED'S" that were tied together on the "BATT" terminal of the old regulator tied together..although removed from it..these wires serve to support other parts of the buss...

Lastly run a 10 gauge BLACK wire from the ground lug to your ground buss system or any handy bolt AT or NEAR the starter or Battery...

If you have not updated your Ground buss, post back, I'll give you the instructions to do so, that will last another 60 years trouble~Free.

DO NOT forget a Fuse Link or Maxi Fuse on the Alternator output wire (Big red wire) or you will have a fire hazard.

Here's the deal. I bought a 61 and there is a draw on the battery. I put a test light between the negative terminal and the cable. I pulled the four fuses one at a time and the light stays on. I got to looking at the two wire plug going into the alternator and the wires came out and ran into one with some kind of a little round silver thing wired and tying the two wires together and covered with tape. I pulled the tape off and found the remnants of what I think are the generator wires. The one brown wire with white stripe that the two ran into runs back and into a loom heading over the firewall and towards the passenger side of the car. I need to know where the two wires should be going instead of going into one wire. I quit at that point but I need to trace and find where it is going and then try to figure out what the guy did. I hope I made this clear. I'm leaving for dinner with the wife and will look for any posts later. Thanks

Doc here, :pimp:

Hope you and your's had a pleasurable Dinner...

BTW: SCAN and EMAIL me a 1 Lb Brick of Prime rib with house Au~Ju...But be careful with the Au~Ju...tends to drip out of the scanner into my mailbox..makes the email sticky... :D

Well, you forgot to mention the ALTERNATOR was Already in there and the harness was hacked...So........

Here is what you need to do to make it right.
  • Install a 10 Gauge red wire from the Alternator output lug to the starter "BAT" terminal, Via a 70 Amp Fuse Link.

  • IF....Regulation is not a problem (no blooming lights at low idle) Install the # 2 Terminal with a short jumper to the BATT lug at the alternator..IF later you find you have a blooming problem, remove this wire, and move it to the horn relay CONTACT (not relay coil) Power..there are 2 sources of power there..this will give you better regulation.

  • Locate the idiot lamp wire..(usually The brown wire..) Connect this wire to the #3 terminal on the alternator.

  • Install your 10 Gauge black wire to the alternator ground lug and the ground Buss you installed.

This will work for ANY Delco SI Series from 63 to 100 Amp, any year...IT will NOT work for the CS 130/140 series, which require a different plug config..

Thanks for the info. I'll look at it this coming week and see how it goes and get back to you if there's still a problem. The small brown wire was inside the wrapped up tape and had been cut off and left there. I thought it was the one to the gen light but wasn't sure. I hope when I get done with correcting this, I find that the drain on the battery has gone away. Thanks, Rich
