okay now back in the early 60's pontiac had superduty cats.,chevy had 409 impalas,dodge and plymouth had 413 powered darts,polaras,furys etc.,and ford had tri power galaxies. Now my question is this, did oldsmobile and buick build cars like that during that time?
He is talking earlier 60s.......................Buick and Olds were considered more of a luxury/grampas car at that time. Olds did have the 394 Starfire and Buick the 425 in their big car (probably Electra).................But these were very heavy cars.
I don't remember seeing any Buick's or Oldsmobile's competing against the others at the Sanford Maine drag strip in the 1960-1964 era. I don't remember them being any kind of force in NASCAR at the time either.

They were heavy but they made smooth power and had lots of torque. In high school I had 64 Impala SS 409 340HP Powerglide, 3:36 (still have it). One of my buddies had a 430 buick and another kid across town had a 62-63 olds with I think a 394. From stop light to stop light I could barely hang with the Olds but the Buick would always (everytime) beat me in the 1/4 by at least a car length. From 90 MPH on I couldn't touch either one of them. The olds I thought was really ugly and I hated the kid that drove it. He later bought a black 66 442 (beautiful car) with a tri-power, 4-speed and I bought a 66/427/425 Vette (still have it) ...needless to say I finally had my day!

Oldsmobile started building the Starfire in 1961. It had the 394 with 330 hp and weighed 4300 lbs. It had leather seats and a tachometer and was built to compete with the Thunderbird. In 1963 Car Life magazine reported 0-60 in 8.5 sec with the new 345 hp engine.
Later Oldsmobile introduced the 1962 F-85 "Jetfire". It had a turbo charged 215 cubic inch aluminum V8 with 10.25:1 compression ratio that developed 215 hp. It also used a water injection system to control detonation that used a mixture of half water and half methyl alcohol which was contained in a reservoir under the hood.
In 1962 Buick introduced the Wildcat. It had a 401 nailhead with 325 hp. Bucket seats, tach, and console with floor shift. In 1964 you could get a 425 cubic inch nailhead with dual four barrels which was rated at 360 hp. You could also get a four speed manual transmission by then.
All of this reminds me of days past. Here in Alaska, until Polar Raceway opened in 1964, we had one big drag race a year held on the airstrip at Tanacross. In 1960 a 57 Olds 88, with the J-2 package, won stock eliminator at that meet. There were muscle cars before the 64 GTO. They just weren't called that back then.
Thanks, Dan! Yes, it's mine. I have a LOT of money in it, so there is only one other person that I would allow to drive it. That would be my son and crew chief, who I have on film going through the lights at 197mph, smoking the tires, in his 90 TA pro mod type car. My best, in the 1/4th is only 8.51 @ 158.

I plan on it. At almost 64, I'm near retirement age, and I bought a 44' gooseneck w/living quarters, just for that purpose, but with the money I've been spending on the car, I won't beable to retire until I'm 85, maybe 84 if I'm lucky. LOL! the picture below has the trailer next to the car. I have an
F-350 diesel dually (also red) to pull it with.
