|busterwivell||I had a vega wagon in the late 70's in Illinois. What a rust bucket! I paid 200.00 for it. Got hit broadside, and it took quite a while for the rust to settle. The insurance paid 550.00. That's about the only way I know of to have made any money on a Vega.|

|MAUSS||I have a friend that has a Vega Wagon, but his is the only one I've seen on the road in years. I remember a guy I went to college with bought a new Vega back in '72... the front fenders didn't even make it through one New England winter.|

|Chopt 48||They are famous for that if you live in a rust belt area Joe. My Cousin brought a Pontiac Astre with an Iron duke and a saginaw four speed out from Michigan that was more rust then car but it still ran like a bandit.|

Vega frame swap
I just knew someone sooner or later would bring up Vega rockets. Had 2, 1 283 / 3 spd. and 1 327 / 'glide. The only thing I've had more fun with was a T bucket with a 283 / 4 spd. Gotta real soft spot for these little rockets.

True, The price of scrap metal has taken it's toll on a lot of cars that would be sitting in someone's back yard along with dead car ordinances in most cities.
V8 Monzas weren't that easy to find when they were 5 years old around here.

Chevy monza had and optional V8 If you could ever find one for factory parts, I think you need front crossmember suspension parts .as well as motor mounts I have a pumped mercury Capri V8. I rewelded all the factory seams in the engine compartment, added extra tubing above the radiator mount ,, cowl to spring tower braces. ladder reinf from 1 x 2 and 1 1/2 round tubing under rockers and seats. Angle iron under rear seat . roll bar. the body stiffened up real good but now i have to put in a stronger clutch, It hooks up so good the clutch is now the weakest link.

That was my thought exactly.
If you do want to build a V8 Vega make sure that the car hasn't been hacked on. It's easier to start from scratch than fix someone else's mess.
Read the links that I posted the search for above especially the Don Hardy one. He is pretty well recognized as the guru of the V8 Vega set.
There should be cars of that body style around with a dead or dying 4 banger for a couple hundred bucks or less in most areas. They may take a bit of hunting but since they made over 2 million of them there are some out there.
One of my autoshop students had one (the one that cracked windshields) that ran in the 12s with a mild 350 and was a terror on the street until his little brother took out an apple tree with it.

There is no subframe. The car has unibody construction. Some people put in a back half subframe like they do on the early Camaros and Novas when they set them up for serious racing.
The Vega has a 97inch wheelbase where the short bed standard cab S-10 has a 108.3 inch wheel base.
I'll be honest, I just can't see how it would be practical or desirable to try to use the S-10 frame under the Vega. To even think about making it work right you would have to cut the complete floor out and build a new floorboard front to back to fit the S-10 frame.
There are several outfits that sell V8 kits and Hedders for the Vega. It was a popular swap in the 70s and 80s. The kits aren't that spendy.
You would have to have a stronger rear end narrowed and it would be a good idea to put a full cage to stiffen the body as they tend to flex when you pour the power of a V8 to it and crack the windshield along with flexing the body.
Normal chassis parts shouldn't be that hard to find through normal channels.
A google search shows a ton of info on the swap and links to parts to do it.

vega frame swap
so i saw a 1975 Vega for-sale that i might buy
the guy who has it said that he was gunna swap the sub frames out for a first gen s10 short bed frame
im wondering,are the wheel bases of the two the same? would there be any advantage to doing this? would i have to change anything on the s10 frame if the wheel base is the same(other then suspension parts to give the Vega a better ride hight)
the only reason i would consider this is because parts fro s10s are alot more common then H-body parts and the frame would be stronger.
and id also imagine modifying the s10 frame for a v8 would be easier
