I've seen aluminum wrenches specifically for these aluminum AN- fittings. Summit and Jegs sell them. I've never used them. When working with mine I just take my time. I would think a small stip of electrical tape would help protect it. I don't mind if mine get a little scratched up, it's not a show car.

I have a set of magnetic aluminum jaws that are used with a vice. They are pretty cheap. I think about $12 from summit. I may have even seen them at Harbor Freight.

Also, I want to say the piece that threads into the tube is reverse threaded. Somebody correct me if I am wrong. It's been a while since I worked with them.

Here's some wrenches:

This would look cool hanging on the wall

These are purtier than mine :)

I find those fittings the hardest to work with,I've had luck with 200mph tape on adjustable wrench jaws worked good.
Hardest part is cutting line and putting nut back on without separating braid.ive had to cut the line more than once
After getting nut on I shove a drift punch in the line to help open(flare) it up ,(using hand soap for lubricant )makes it easier to to join the fittings together.
The anodizing is very very thin coated. If you are worried about appearance they have anodizing paint....hope this helps and good luck
That pdf. is good article

Good info using something to flare the hose, I do the same. Without flaring/opening it up some, it's like trying to push a chain! I used An-10 lines and smaller is even worse. I've thought about lubricating them but not sure that's wise, a little spit helps...
