When I built my last 2 engines, the shop I used loaned me this simple little tool. Worked great. You will either have a gap at the stem (like mine) or a gap at the pushrod. Just add/subtract the measurements and you are good to order up the rods.
You can also buy an adjustable pushrod but it will take some time getting the geometry right by trial and error before coming to the correct length.

Push Rod Length
Hey guys quick question. I am in the midst of buying the rest of the parts I need for my build but I have NO idea what size pushrods I will need. I'll list the specs of my build and if anyone can tell me what length pushrod I will need it would be very much appreciated.
383 SBC flat tops 10.2:1 compression
AFR 195cc aluminum heads with 70cc chambers (getting them milled to 70cc)
Lunati Vodoo hydraulic flat tappet cam, 227/233 dur. at 0.050", .489"/.504" lift.
CompCams Pro Magnum Roller Rockers (1.52:1)
My quench will be around 0.40-0.45 and I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what length pushrod I need?? I am assuming just the regular 7.80" pushrod?? I was told to purchase a pushrod size checker but I don't know which size checker to buy as they come in 4 different sizes!! Any input by you experienced builders will help me a million!!
