My name is George Barton and I am new to this... I have a new 69 Camaro convertible, thats right a new 69 Camaro convertible. My son and I are building this for his senior year in high school (he is in the tenth grade now)and boy have I turned him into an "Old Gear Head". We need information on a front sub-frame clip. We have a Moser 12 bolt rearend with a Quradra-Link setup from DSE with DSE sub-frame connectors. These we have already installed with DSE mini-tubs. We have thought about the Fatman Stage III and Hiedt's as well. I have been doing a lot of reading on these sites and looks like Fatman is not doing so well with their products. DSE is can be expensive but looks like it could be the best. Hiedt's looks good and what I am reading seams to be doing good. We want to use the 2" drop front spindle's with tubular upper and lower A arms as well as coil over shocks. Can some help with what is the best way to go? Oh yes, we are building this as a driver with a 572/620hp engine. I also have a new gas credit card that will be maxed out in a week...(LOL)
As a Moderator here ... and a former 69 Camaro owner ... I want to be the first to WELCOME you.
I love 69 Camaros and have owned a few ... and so has a few of the other Moderators.
No real help on your suspension choice ... from me.
I just used the original sub frames under mine. BUT I sold my last 1st generation Camaro years ago.
Art Morrison makes a nice unit for 69 Camaro that uses Corvette C5 components. A bit pricey, but worth it IMO. I looked very closely at their stuff at the recent NSRA nats in Louisville and was impressed with their work.
While their instruction sheets leave a little to be desired, I am very impressed with the quality of my TCI MII for my 41. The Camaro looks like a bolt in from the photo, so poor instructions shouldn't be as big a problem for it. Get opinions and do a lot of research. Pick the front end you are comfortable with.
I have heard that the IFs that are used for Hot Rods are doing OK. It seems to me that the front subframe clip is what I am looking for for our 69 Camaro. But thanks for the input any way...
take the time to look at detroit spring's front sub-frame assy.hydroformed, smooth and hi tec!!! john ps good choice to start new.are they still about 12k? what a deal!
