|6426yy||Just an FYI my local machine shop chargers $85 to turn a crank. Rods and Mains. But they can't balance anything. There's a pretty established speed shop about an hour from me and I hope to have my rotating assembly ballanced this spring.|

My Chevy parts book lists the same crank for 307 & 327 engines in the years that they offered both, which would lead me to believe there's no balance issue, as far as stock engines go. I weighed a 307 piston on a post office scale a few years ago, and it was only a few grams off from what KB claimed for their alleged stock-replacement-type 327 flat-top.
But like he said, if you already have a crank, it would be better to have it ground locally, probably for less money, and you'd avoid shipping charges for a 50# chunk of iron that even a rookie UPS dude could destroy in the blink of an eye.

even thou they share the same stroke, a 307 is not he same as a 327.
If you use a 307 crank in your 327 you will have to rebalance the crank.
If you use your 327 crank and resize your 327 rods and get replacement 327 cast flat top pistons that are equal or very close to the stock piston weight, you won't need to re-balance the crank. Thats a good deal.
The price is reasonable but nothing especially cheap about it. You can get your 327 crank re ground for the same price or less. You need to get friendly with your local automotive machinist.

low cost crankshaft?
northern auto parts just released that they have 307-327 cranks for 129.00 bucks!35 dollar core.i talked to the dude and he said that the journals were turned 10-20-and no more than 30. is this a bad deal? it comes with rod and main bearings.
