I did some painting years ago and fisheyes were big problem. The paint sales guy came in and walked over to the welders and showed us that the MIG spatter cans had silicone in them. We replaced all the cans with non-silicone base and had the shop air filter changes. Problem gone almost over night. He also said no fish eye killer too even though he sold it. after this there was never any silicone based material brought into the shop.
Wash don't sand. Everyone likes Dawn but any good non silicone dishwash soap works well. It's the grease cutting acting you are looking for. Don't press tack cloths. just dust with them.
Make sure you shop vac doesn't blow dust all over. It needs good filters.
I used to fine spray water all over the paint area frome the ceiling down. This seemed to pull the dust out of the air. The floor was also wet so you didn't stomp dust inthe booth air.
I guess it boils down to preparation.

Started wetsanding it last night after a good wash with Dawn. Let's just say I got aggressive with the abrasive grit. I worked up to 600. Tonight 800 and 1200 wash before and after then tomorrow more clear. I thought I had the car devoid of any contaminants seein how I washed it with Dawn before doing any work. I just need to be more particular with preparation/cleaning. My mistake has cost me a bunch of extra time. The good point is, it will have nearly a gallon and a half of clear on it and should polish up real nice. It already has 3 quarts of clear on it now.
All these years of painting cars and on the one I am most particular with, I have a problem like this. Sheesh. We learn all the time, or at least I do.

|fisher57||yes indeed all these guys are right . here is a little tip. also take your tack rag and completely unfold it and make it like a big fluffy ball (loose) and gently use it on the surface. before i tack off a car prior to paint i take rubbing alcohol and put it in a clean (new) spray bottle and use that for a final wipe down and then tack it off . good luck to ya i wish you the best .|

Many people make the same mistakes you made, myself included. The first thing a lot of people want to do is sand... bad mistake! You're just grinding any contaminants, such as silicon, into the surface, making it very hard to remove later. CLEAN-CLEAN-CLEAN first, then sand.
And the tack rags, if you rub with any pressure, they will leave way more behind than they pick up.

If you really rubbed the tack rag I suspect that is the source of your base fish eye problem.

That could have been part of it as well. I can guarantee I wasn't just dragging the tac rag like a chamois. I was working it like a wash rag.

|bloverby||Good move,,, Washing with Dawn followed by a wipe down with solvent based wax and grease remover is the first thing you should do when you begin a project,,, before you touch a thing with sandpaper.|

|cyclopsblown34||My air is filtered at the compressor and at the regulator. I have no lubricator and even use a last chance filter at the gun. My guess is the car was exposed to silicone at some point and it caused the initial problem. The FEE compounded the problem. From now on anything I paint gets scrubbed and sanded with fresh Dawn dish liquid.|

Your fisheyes in the base most likely came from surface or air system contamination, the fisheyes in the clear came from the fisheye eliminator that was in the base but not in the clear........ If that makes sense.
The recommendation not to add eliminator to base is given because it will have an adverse affect on the clearcoat adhesion. That's my take on Sherwin Williams stuff, I imagine the same holds true for Dupont.
