Anyone want to start a Hotrodders Art Contest?
Dudes and Dudettes, there is an "Art Challenge" on the HAMB web site that I have been participating in for the past 2 or 3 months! It is a lot of fun and brings a lot of cool art to the viewing audience! A subject is picked, such as a 40' coupe or a 49' Anglia or whatever, and all artist submit their rendering of that subject. The winner is selected by the contestants and a prize could be set up if ya'll want it! What do you think! Anything would go as far as what medium you use!
"Gentlemen Sharpen your pencils"!!!
Here are a few drawings that I submitted to the HAMB art challenge!
I have a few drawings that I have been meaning to put up, just hard to get a good pic of them and when you scan them they dont look good.
Heres a 48 f-1 rpu i did a while back but the pic is blurry
Cool, Shane! I always love a convertible pickup! Have you tried to up the DPI setting on your scanner! Sometimes I have to set mine to 600 DPI to get a good scan!
If anyone is interested in starting a HRAC (Hot Rodders Art Contest) here is a suggestion for the first contest! I have this ugly *** Henry J that needs customization! If you want to participate just do a rendering of a Henry J similar to the pic! I'm sure a gasser comes to mind immediately. Take it to any limit you want! And have fun!
I would say 2 weeks should be sufficient, I'm sure we all have day jobs so that should give enough time to create art. Jan 9th is the deadline! Good luck & have fun!
So if you have done this in the passed, it cannot be done in the future, is that what your sayin?
This contest is for everyone. Not just Photoshop! Drawings, paintings, computer art, etc. "Any medium is welcome!" Everyone is welcome!
Just trying to help out a new guy is all. What I'm suggesting is that it might be considered somewhat offensive for a newbie (12 posts) to waltz over here from the HAMB telling us you've just invented sliced bread and offering to bring us out of the dark ages with YOUR idea of starting an art contest. Obviously you didn't take the time to familiarize yourself with our past activities here in the Art Forum nor did you do a search to determine if this had already been done here and the type of response that it got. Otherwise you would have never posted "here is a suggestion for the FIRST contest" or provided the basic format of the contest "A subject is picked, such as a 40' coupe or a 49' Anglia or whatever, and all artist submit their rendering of that subject" if you had been aware that this was something already being done here at HR.Com.
You can start all the art contests you want and I wish you the best with this one. But I'm suggestion they might go over better if you recognize they are following in an already established tradition which other rodders, like ChevelleSS_LS6 have worked hard to get established, rather than being some new invention of the HAMB or yourself.
I thought he, fortypickup, was fishing for ideas to do to that Henry J.
The pic posted is too small to see detail and while I´ve found a bunch of Henry´s on the web none qualify.

I would encourage artists to participate. I have no problem whatsoever with doing these "design challenges". They are fun AND they can initiate some real creative thinking applicable to "live" builds.
I was simply making the point that this is not something new to HR.Com and that treating it so might appear as disrespectful of the previous efforts of our many fine artists like Malc, pigjamelectric, DVierstra, Only Racing, and many many others who not only worked to get the "Hot Rod Art" forum going but have shared with us their terrific work - from photochops, to illustrations to drawings and even poetry and song.
My feeling is the idea is great...just a slight stumble in the presentation. And I hope fortypickup will take my comments in that light.
Mikey's "refrigerator worthy" entry hung in the appropriate spot in our house.
(I had to cover up my niece's depiction of Rudolph and our dog Buster dancing the tango on Christmas eve.)
Not a problem. Thanks for understanding where I was coming from. I think we all agree the HenryJ makeover could be fun. Hope you attract some entries that might be even MORE refrigerator worthy than Mikey's (if that's possible).
Well if ya'll still want to do this, I have posted some better pics of the Henry J. Hopefully the quality is better! I also want to make clear this is not a "Photoshop my ride" I can do that just fine! It is a contest to bring out "your" skills as an artist!
No... Seriously... Tell me how you really feel!!! HAHAHA!!!
