That is a well articulated statement Dave.

It is true I believe that the ones that got it easy are not working hard enuf while others are forced to pick up their slack.

Like MOST People who go to a gym to work out.
they are not working hard enuf to start with .

Too many Pencil pushers & desk jockeys those people loose touch with reality & what it take to do the job.

IMHO

Everyone can think what they want about truckers being 'clean' but "powdered coffee" is as real to life as lot lizards. Not all the drivers will use either one , but there are plenty who use both.
Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy when you're driving down the highway , huh?

Rob Keller There is NO PROFIT in the Cure Or Answers.

In there lies the problem.

There are working "Joe's" that could run this place better than the thieves in there now.

See When George & Tommy & Ben ,helped start our great country .

THEY HAD JOBS!

They did not just push a pencil around in Washington.

A good hard days work would kill off most politicians, I have no doubt.

Put the Prisoners & Politicians out on chain gangs & the others ,
Donate their organs to people who will put them to good use.

Why do we need to spend Billions on a space program when people are starving on this planet?

Don't get me wrong, I love astronomy but too many rockets & not enuf people leading healthy lifestyles because of lack of Fund-age.

All this is nothing more than a day dream, because unless the 99% stand up & gripe the 1% will never let go of what they got.

because most of the 99% need to be told what to do because they lack ambition & Motivation .

Not everyone can be the boss

So there ya go full circle

What a waste of time

The Laws are made for the criminals ...they are the ones that benefit from them .

There is no justice for the victim of a murder. But the Perp gets to sit in jail sucking up tax payers money for 20 years while they go from appeal to appeal.

The system is flawed

It past due for a major upgrade

Its to the point that the ones who pay their dues get penalized.

The ones that don't skate by with out a care.

Having to take a piss test to get a job is a great example, but what do you do refuse & spite your family?

The other side is do you want a crack head rolling behind your family sitting on top of 80,000lbs @ 70 MPH?

I think not.

so where id the middle of the road anyway?

bluebu I think that mandatory drug testing for anyone receiving public assistance is a wonderful idea! So is making them "work" X number of hours per week at some type of public job. The problem with the current system is that it's all just a free ride for those who wish to abuse it. It was created with good intentions but it just no longer works. If we can come up with two simple ways to improve the system why can't Washington? Oh, that's right...it's because the liberals and the bleeding hearts would raise too much of a stink about "abusing" the poor!

I don't know about the rest of you but I figure I'm always about one unemployed month away from being one of those "poor" myself. (I think a lot of folks are even if we don't like to think about it.) If the worst happened and I had to fall back on the government to eat or keep a roof over my head you better believe that I'd think that picking up trash off the roadside a couple of days a week or something was a small price to pay. A helping hand should be just that a helping hand, NOT a free ride for life!

Yes, drug related crime would no doubt rise but if we didn't have to spend untold millions on welfare abusers perhaps we could actually afford to increase our police force and build some more prisons so putting criminals back of the street early to ease prison overcrowding would no longer be necessary. I guess what I'm saying here is that if my tax dollars are going to go towards housing & feeding some low life I'd rather that they be in jail where at least they are not free to produce yet another generation of public leeches!

Yes, those who fail the mandatory drug test should have their children taken from them. Could a government run orphanage really do a worse job of raising them than their drug abusing parents are doing?

This seems to me, to be a no brainer. A little common sense goes a long way. Too bad our government just doesn't have any!

schnitz My wife and I were talking about this recently too (We got the same Email from her dad...). Basic conclusion we both came to is indeed a pretty sad one if you stop to think about it this way. Say the Goobermint started testing for drugs before doling out the welfare checks/food stamps/federal aid/ whatever you call it. Suddenly crack/methheads have a lack of funds and ability to finance the addictions they have. What do they start doing? Start robbing business's and private homes, that's were the money is, right? How else would they finance the habits they have?

It's not like you see any too many drug users just showing up at an employer's door just begging to go to work. That would be the day. Take the easy way out and steal for what you need. I could foresee the crime rate going thru the roof and drug related violence becoming even more prevalent. Personally, I'd love to see mandatory drug tests for those on welfare, but at the expense of needing more slugs for my 12 ga., I'd rather not see it happen. Ever here of the lessor of two evils? If I caught someone burglarizing my property, I can guarantee they will never do it again. However, I do know that I'll have to answer for that judgment call with a life sentence as well.

My solution to all this is probably too simple too, but here it is.

1. Clean house in D.C. The President, the House, the Senate, even clear out the lobbyists. Start completely over. Give elected officials one chance. If they can't find enough loopholes to make their millions of $$$'s in one terms' time, why give them decades to do it? Ted Kennedy and my own states' Dave Obey come to mind. I say line their pockets once and toss them out. This may be the only way to execute real change in government.

2. This part may throw a few for a loop, but please hang with me as I explain my reasoning why. Legalize drugs, and then tax the snot out of them. 50% tax should do it. Probably finance the entire government payroll on the taxes alone. Works well for the tobacco industry. Just don't subsidize the "drug farmers" like they do the tobacco farmers. Anybody that has been around tobacco farming knows exactly what I'm talking about. Portions of what smokers pay in cigar/cigarette taxes are funneled right back into tobacco farmer's pockets to help them out in bad growing years.

Now I'm also talking about strictly enforcing a lack of drug use in certain professions, Dr.s, emergency health care providers, and airline pilots come to mind right away. Now here it gets a bit touchy, but hear me out. One of the biggest challenges to this is that the parents in this country will have to step up what they do to make sure that their children can tell the difference between morally right and wrong from an very early age. More on this in a bit...I've never tried drugs, and saw no reason to try them. Heck, I don't even take aspirin for a headache.

Another part of legalizing drugs in my system is to inflict the most severe punishments our courts dole out for people convicted of any crime with any known narcotic in their system. I'm talking death penalty here, boys. Would you get high and knock off a liquor store if getting caught meant getting a one way trip six feet under? How about driving impaired by drugs? Simply put, you commit a felony or kill someone and test positive for drugs, you die. No second chances, no stays of execution. Make people think before they shoot up about the consequences, and drug usage will drop. Crime rates (barring those in D.C. of course ) will drop as well. Who needs a new SuperMax prison if you clean house once a week? I really like the "electric bleacher" idea that was posted earlier.

Anyways, I'll step down now before I say something I may really regret.

In a while, Chet.

NAIRB I am against welfare except for the most needy cases, and I do mean needy. I am also against drug testings. I want people out of my life, my blood and government out of my wallet.

This past summer I took a vaction hitting all the "Birth of a Nation" stuff from Boston down to Virgina. That is one thing I kept thinking over and over, who in the living hell could we call on to do something that Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, etc. did? LOL, there isn't a combination of twenty people in any office in America would could/would do what any one of our founding fathers did on their own!!!!

Give me a break! We have the best country in the world, it just needs some repair work. But we certainly don't need to start over!

Rob Keller OK I'm in a wild spin heading for a snow drift with my foot to the floor but...

Really how can we BEEACH

Bad kids trace back to bad parents who trace back to bad parenting...95% of the time.

Me having NO KIDS see the good in good well raised kids now & then.

On to my point.

Look @ our Government how many Trillions of Dollar$ are we in debt?

So how can we expect the simpletons to take care of their selves when the "..{I use this term extremely lightly} Best minds of our country" can even do it.

Around here you are Either Poor or OK there is no middle of the road..

Seems like it would be better just to start a new USA.

like the GOOBERment aught to file bankruptcy.

techron brian, i'm familiar with the muslim bakery stories, they pop up in the news on a regular basis--they're nut jobs. and all the kooks live in bezerkley, but is that all you could come up with!! what about richmond? east palo alto? or THE CITY?? the bay area has become looney tunes. (no offence to you)

i am against the electric chair.....
.
.
i am for electric bleachers!!!!

happy new years to all you hot rodders.

MARTINSR Are you kidding me? Did you see the fight they put up with over giving a finger print to collect Welfare?????

GOD YES make them pass a urine drug test, how much more common sense does it need to be?

But if you are going to talk government gone mad, how about this one. Now for all you liberals preaching about Bush, this is DEMOCRAT COUNTRY boys. This is Ex Ca govenor Jerry "wheat germ" Brown who was mayor of Oakland Ca when this happened. What happened to the 1.1 million given to the Black Muslim Bakery? (click here) The "Black Muslim Bakery" they refer to in the story has done things like went and trashed corner stores in the black neighborhoods because they were selling liquer, saying that it was the stores fault the neighborhood was full of winos. Now, I agree to some degree with their point, however, seems all the stores that got trashed where Asian owned.
The latest was a number of them being arrested for killing some poor newspaper reporter who was about to write a story on them.

This is right next to a city (Berkley) where they took the American flags off the fire trucks because they didn't want to "offend" anyone!

Just hand it out, hand it out no questions asked. Pump out babies, borrow money and max out credit cards, do what ever you want, we are here to give you anything you need.

Brian

By the waym this is the same government that Hillary and Micheal Moore want to run the our health care system.

79C10 Drug test them , schmug test them , they'll still be able to buy booze and take whatever pills they may take.( xanax , vicodin, oxycontin , etc , soforth , so on .... )
Wouldn't it be better to make welfare reception dependant on community service? There are plenty of good programs the cities and states could use "volunteers" for ( trash pickup and such....) then the welfare folks would REALLY be looking for work , not just sitting back and collecting. We sentence people to "community service" all the time as punishment for crimes. If criminals can do that type of work , so can able-bodied people who want a "free" paycheck.
I know if I needed welfare and they told me , sure - you have to work here or there - I'd be down with working for it. Welfare should be in place to help people not be hungry. Not to help them live a life of leisure.
There's my dime.
12-31-2007 07:14 PM
smoke If you are on welfare/unemployment you should be looking for a job. Most places now days make you take a drug test so if you don't pass the test you are not able to look for work. I don't know but wouldn't that be a reason to deny them.
Here in Oregon they now have Oregon trail card instead of food stamps. It is just like an atm card. We don't want them to feel bad when they go by junk food.
One more thing. Why dont government/state employees have to take drug tests?
