New weatherstip..Window not right????

All new weatherstripping on 68 Firebird. I have been trying to get my drivers window to roll up into the body's weatherstripping correctly but the new quarter window weatherstripping is so thick and hard that it causes the glass to land outside the groove of the body weatherstripping. This is extremely agrevating. Any tricks??? If I stay outside the car and apply a small amount of pressure at the top of the glass while someone in the car rolls it up it seals up perfectly but if you just roll it up with no pressure it jumps outside the upper channel on the body. Please help. I know I've spent 10-12 hrs on this window.

thanks,
stan
