seafoam is like amsoil crankcase cleaner. when i put it in oil, i drive the car to get it hot pull it onto the ramps or where i will change my oil. put the seafoam in it let it idle i repeat idle, for abuot 10 to 15 mins, let it sit for a few, then drain oil till not even drops come out of the pan. amsoil recommends with their cleaner that if you have some miles like 3k on an oil change to change filter first, so that it doesnt knock dirt out of filter into oil, then change it all.
to know if you even have to do that, is to change oil first, put the can in, let it idle for a few, then check it. if its dark there is crap that needs cleaning, if its not, let it drain real good. and marvel mystery is a good safer alternative to seafoam.

|PapaWrench||I like Seafoam. I have a 86 Ford 5.0L that had a sticking exhaust lifter and the seafoam added to the oil freed it up. I normally wouldn't recommend adding a solvent to crankcase oil as it could potentially loosen up sludge and block oil galleries. I used it in the crankcase as an "emergency" fix and got lucky. 15,000 miles later the car still runs fine. If you use it in the top end, as others have said, a huge cloud of white smoke will surround you and your car killing every mosquito within a 50 mile radius of ground zero! I use it in the gas tank about once a month.|

Choke it out REAL good with a input point that will fill all the cyls
I have probably puchasced A hundreded bucks worth of Sea Foam in the last year...
Use 3 or 4 cans... and load the motor good ,then let set for 15 min then run...
Take on highway at high RPM=Repeat
Cleans area around valve seat-

thanks thats what i heard just wasnt sure. so im safe with no worries if i just put it in the gas tank and through the carb correct???
i have a new cam so im not trying to loosen anything just trying clean the carbon out.

Sea Foam Is A Good Top End Cleaner......pour It Down The Intake And It Wikk Help Your Car Smog>>>do Not Pour Any Oil Thinning Additive In Oil Unless You Want To Lose Rod Bearings....
iT WILL PROBABLY MAKE THE CAM GO FLAT FIRST
Don't put seafoam,Berrymans,or any of that kind of stuff in the crankcase at all
UNLESS you are trying to lossen up lifters..., and then DONT rev up over 1500
The cam is first to go.. then rods-
That stuff is great to clean the top end but you are taking life off your lower end by putting it in the oil....

sea foam in oil???
i know this has been talked about many times i have read many of the threads talking about sea foam. but one thing that is not fully clear to me is if its good or bad to put in oil. there web page says to put a bit in the oil but some ppl say not to and have had problems when its in the oil.
i want to do the sea foam treatment because when i did a cam job awhile ago i saw the top of the valves looked in the combustion chambers through the spark plug holes. and there was a good amount of carbon build up. ive read many many many good things about sea foam and how good it cleans the carbon so i want to do it. i just dont know about putting it in the oil. any thoughts???
the engine is a 350sbc in a 70 elky. so no sensors and no cats on the exhaust.
also which is the best way to put it into the engine??? though the brake booster hose or the top of the carb??? i have the rpm air gap intake so its a dual plane if that makes any difference (im not really sure just tossing that out there).
