I finally finished my aluminum interior today. It has been a pain, but I am pretty happy with it. What do you all think?

Thanks Todd,

Nope, no pattern. I just started with the top of the dash and rought cut it. It took about ten in and outs to get it all trimmed down. Made the front of the Dash and door panels the same way. the side finish panels were more like 20 times in and out. It took as long for those little pieces as all the rest of it.

I used small pan head sheet metal screw for everything. I dont like anything to be too permenant, and that way I can replace anything that might get damaged or need to be reclearcoated.

Thats sweet, i really dig aluminum dashes' i'm working on one myself, still in the rendering stages though... check it out...I didn't quite get the look of aluminium in the rendering, i was too lazy to texture it, but you can kinda get the picture....

Have fun with that. It can be done, but those inset areas for the guages will be tricky. You will have to rivet or screw them. Looks like a killer design.
What modeling software did you use for the renderings?

Sound like a plan. Post some pics when it comes together.

Are you planning on using a break for all the bends. If so, the aluminum will have to be pretty thin. That said, it might be challenging to weld. However, if you used all 1/8 material and welded all the seams, it would make a killer look. Course, it would not be real light.

I was hoping to have the main portion one solid peice bent over 3 times like so...

But i dont know how to get this done, i was just going to take it to a machine shop, do you think it can be done with a break? is that what they use? I dont think i've ever seen one <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Yes, they will use a break, or maybe its brake. Anyway, it is used to make long straight bends like you want. You will have to use the right aluminum so it does not crack. It has to be fairly soft and alloyed correctly. Thin aluminum, around .050" thick will work best and give you nice sharp bends. That will be very dificult to weld to for your gauges though which is why I suggested welding it all with thicker material or riveting the pods in.

All right. Engineers love drawings, especially 3d ones! :) :)
Sure. It can be made easily on a Brake. Just go to your local fabricator, it should be cheap.
They could also roll your gauge bezels for you.
MOst fabricators like small jobs like this for fill in work. Nice Modeling by the way. :) I like to model things out before I do anything as well. Rhino is pretty cool, I do a lot of Inventor and AutoCAD for a this type of stuf at work. I bet you could find an Aluminum texture to map onto your model pretty easily on one of those modeling sites.
Wow Turbo, your cab looks really nice. Ya gotta love natural Aluminum. That roll cage looks beautiful as well.
