frame cancer

Hi ,if it was my truck,i would just cut out the cancer, replace with new metal (same guage) then put a fish plate on inside of the frame, at least 6in longer fore and aft of repair.

56 dream truck
rusted frame

I took my 56 chevy truck down to bare frame over the past weekend. In doing this I found a spot of cancer in the frame just below the back of the cab.
If any tips out there on the best way to repair this cancer please help.
The cancer is on the outside of frame rail if this helps.
