killerformula http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/hey-...ght=gas+prices

Just for reference, the above thread is about 2 years old. Gas prices have almost doubled in that time. I seem to remember in the summer of '05 they were still in the $1.5x range. So in 3 years it has more than doubled!

Just got back from Spain last week, gas there was about 1.30 Euros per liter. With the current exchange rate, that's about 8 bucks a gallon.

I think the scary part is how fast it has gone up, though. Five years ago when I was in Germany it was 1.15 a Euro or so, so European gas prices are at least relatively steady, from my experience.

Wonder where we'll be in another 2 years? Will I drive my hotrod at 100 bucks a tank? Probably. 200 or 250? Maybe not...

runn141 a cars gas mileage is only as good as the price at the pump. a car that gets 35 mpg is about like one that gets 22 mpg 4 or 5 years ago. when they begin to make all cars have 65 to 70 mpg the oil companies will make up there loss. just like if everyone lowered there consumption like they have, the oil companies will and are making up their loss.

Irelands child One interesting thing I noticed yesterday as I took a trip into our "fair" Capital city of Albany during rush hour. It's about 20 miles, the speed limit is posted at 65 - and before $4 gal gas if you were running that speed, at a minimum, you would get a 'flip-off' and on up from there with the staties still out for coffee. Yesterday, it was very close to the speed limit with a few even below. The only one significantly above, with, of course his hat brim shading his neck, was driving a ricer complete with 747 stabilizer and low profile tires, cutting back and forth across lanes.

And again, my DD is a V10 guzzler

TorkMonster400 My daily driver is a hyundia elantra and I avg 35 mpg all day long w/ ac. I laugh my butt off every time a SUV passes me and honks for driving the speed limit Tell me this is it weird that I get better gas milage at 55mph and 2100 rps than I do at 45 and around 1800? its in the same speed on the tranny to? oh well. I'm trying hard to max my MPG. I'm sure with a few more mods I can push 40 MPG easy.

Blazin72 I read today that GM is planning on slashing SUV and light truck production by 35%, roughly 700,000 vehicles, over the next couple years. They are contemplating dumping the Hummer brand altogether. That brand has to be the ultimate Stupid Ugly Vehicle to date.

I wonder if the $50,000+ Tahoe Hybrid will be among the cuts?

gamble71 exploder on 33s with 4.56 gears. I average 13-15mpg, but it's paid for so it stays. Until someone buys it so I can get me an 84-88 MonteSS

I didn't get rid of the V8 vehicle , I just don't use it as a DD anymore.
I was thinking today of all the people who bought into the huge SUV craze ( stupid ugly vehicle ). I wonder if they still love em after a fill up ?
I put 30 dollars in the Honda today. E to F with a quickness. Gotta love it.
You betcha, our DD is a Yota Rav 4 and a Frontier PU - - - like you say - - - gotta love it

Irelands child Let me digress from the high price of gasoline for a post.

If you are a smoker (and I'm not nor have ever been, except for 2nd hand stuff, thankfully), don't bother coming to New York State. Effective today, the price for a pack of smokes just increased by $1.25 a pack. That means the guy who checked out in front of me yesterday, paying $11 for two packs of Marlboro's would now be expected to pay $13.50 plus another $.18 in sales tax or $13.68. I recall when they were $2.00 a carton or $.25 a pack out of a machine (my parents both smoked and both died from the effects of emphysema). Add that to the high price of gas plus the grocery store prices, home heating oil that's almost $5/gallon, the 'Joe Average' folks of the world don't have a chance to ever get the little paid off house, two cars, a nice retirement fund, reasonable health insurance and a nice yearly vacation

Taxes - plus one other major negative to life, are inevitable .

bluebu Now that you mention it...I know several people who work in the salvage busines and not a one of them drives a small car. Things that make you go hmmmm.

I bought a PT Cruiser a while back as a DD. At the time gas prices weren't so high so I was actually looking more to save wear and tear on my dually but I sure am glad I've got that little 4 cylinder now. I'd planned on dropping a SBC in her but......it ain't happening any time soon! lol

I used to hate jap-crap 4 bangers. Recently ,I was spending 40 dollars a day for gas to commute to work with my V-8 equipped ride. Thats 800 dollars a month ! Rent money , dang near........
So , I bartered a side job and got a '93 Honda Civic Hatchback. 290,000 miles on it. It runs like a top. Got me to thinking... : you won't find many V8's with 290,000 on the clock . Then I started driving the thing daily. 10 - 12 dollars a day , even at current prices !!! This zippy little 4-banger will cruise at 80 mph , no problems. It's fast as heck , will pass a vehicle like nothing is there , and it handles like a dream. all while being incredibly fuel efficient.
Now I'm thinking : what took me so long to like these cars ? I don't know if I'll ever spend the dough to feed an unefficient V8 again. If I was to play with this thing ( header , intake , exhaust , turbo , Nos , etc. ) she'd be pretty b a d a s s !!!
Fusk Exxon/Mobile and George Bush !! I'm ridin rice and loving it.

Now that is all fine & dandy ........

until. . . .

it comes time to trade paint!

3 times i been in a 40MPH + wreck in a full size American truck & lived to tell the tale.

there is no way a Honda anything is going to provide you with any support against a Tri Axel dump truck.

My suburban did.

No way a Subaru is going to take the hit that a 70 + year old grandma driving a 90 somthing cougar that knocked a tommy lift off a full size ford work truck with enuf energy left to kill my lawn mower trailer bend the insert & send me into a jack knife.

My Ford F~250 did.

That Toyota Corolla that double kissed my Suburban while sliding thru a stop sign.

Next day all 5 of us walked out of the Hospital .

The Toyota people they were not as fortunate.

I have worked in the Auto salvage business for a long time & while the technology improves cars get lighter & safer with their air bags & what nots .

I know what a 60 MPH head on wreck looks like & smells like.

So pay now or pay later .

I will keep my Paid for gas guzzling Suburban & 3+3 Dualie because lord know people don't drive safer than they did 20 years ago.

Call it Heavy Metal Noise.
