there should not be any issue with removing heads with studs while in the vehicle. the studs will have a female allen head to them, use permatex #2 non hardning on the treads(block side) when you install the studs. remove the studs before the head.

I used studs and I wouldnt do it again on a non race engine. They are a pain in the butt to get to seal. I used good (arp) studs and there recomended sealer and still had a few leakers. I ended up using a permetex product and finally got them to seal. I dont have the space issues in my tbucket but in a car with fenders I guess they could present some space issues as well.

|SSedan64||Seepage?? If it's a street car don't use head studs. Race, I say go for it. On a street car when removing the heads you may run into brake booster & A/C interference etc. Studs do offer the best clamping method. It just depends on if they're applicable. I don't think they're really needed unles you're using plenty of Nitrous or Boost.|

|Stroke||Studs have their pros (better clamping, less block thread wear) as well as cons (seepage and possible interference, as in tight fit to the head). If you don't need them why bother? On the other hand, studs are the way to go, IMO. As for head gaskets, you're going to get as many replies as there are head gasket mfrs. Just don't cheap out when you buy them.|

head bolts or head studs? head gaskets?
i have to take apart my 383 stroker here shortly and i know the bottom end has all eagle rotating assy and is held together with arp studs. the compression is 9.9:1 and i have rhs pro torquer heads. is there any advantages to using head studs compaired to head bolts? would it be worth my money and time to get them instead of bolts? comments would be great? and for a 350 block thats bored .40 over whats the best head gasket possible to buy thats around .41 thick?
