HalfOunce I suppose it would depend on how long they keep thier foot into it,and if it runs ok the whole time thier foot is in it WOT.

65smallblock My first thought would be either a weak fuel supply or low float level.

dawg think about it there is a bit of fuel in the circuit but once used up the car will nose over

HalfOunce Sounds like something in the idle circuit in the carb to me. Seeings how its dieing after WOT not during.

dawg I had same problem before
fix was rear bowl jet extentions
think about the fuel in the rear bowl on hard forward acceleration its uncovering the jets in the secondaries

Frisco I'd look at the timing and the idle RPM. If either are too low, when the throttle slams shut the engine can 'stall'.

CuttyGMachine Thanks guys. I am running a stock mechanical fuel pump. I'm having a hard time believing that it could pull more fuel than the pump can provide, but I will install the gauge and see what I can find.

techinspector1 My best guess is that you're runnin' it out of fuel. Rig up a temporary fuel pressure gauge and mount it on the cowl so you can monitor it through the windshield.

engine stalls,

HI,the problem is one of three things,fuel,spark or air,try it with the air filter off. disconnect fuel line to carb,and put fuel line into milk jug,turn engine over,check amount of fuel . then check timing,and advance.

SBC - Engine dies after hard acceleration

I'm hoping someone will have an easy fix for me with this one. I finished putting the engine back together and dropped it in the Cutlass (83). It is a 350 SBC, 30 over, Summit K1106 cam, '80-something 305 heads, Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake and 1411 carb, 2800 RPM stall converter in front of a TH350. I've got the engine idling smoothly and pulling pretty strongly. However, it is still stalling sometimes as I come off of a hard acceleration. Does anyone have any insights into what might be causing this? Do I need to go through the carb and clean it again? Anything else I should be looking for?
