nigerian scammers are mailing me

Want me to send my motor to them and pay me with certified check. Is there any way to bust these guys? Can I forward the emails to somebody or have them send me a check? I'd like to help get somebody busted if I can.

Makes me so mad, if i could find the bastard I'd go cave his nuts in-

K

If I did'nt know you were probably talking about some eBay scammers, then I would say you were either nuts, or need to stop smoking that stuff!

Report it to your internet provider and the local Secret Service Field Office. They handle electreonic fraud cases. I know a few agants in Detroit. Hit me with a PM and I'll get you a name.

killer, since you got this in an email why don't you send jon a PM with the email adress so he can see if anyone has registered under that email adress and then possibly suspend them so atleast noone else here would have to deal with it. I can't really see how else they would of known about your motor unless you visit other forums

I handle mail servers for an ISP, and the proper way to submit a complaint to the offender's ISP is to send the message header. Not to be confused with any exhaust system

I think just about all email readers have an option to show the message header. In Microsoft Outlook you can right-click on the message as it sits in your inbox, then click on "Options". A new box will pop up and "Internet Headers" will show the message header.

Instructions to retreive the message header for many email programs can be found at:
http://vww.spamcop.com/help_with_headers/

You will need to copy and paste the header to send to the offender's ISP.

From here, it gets a little difficult. You have to find the numeric address and domain name of the sender. Usually, these addresses/names will be forged to hide the sender's whereabouts. Here is a website that gives instructions to do this:

http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/newsle...9/headers.html

If this is more than you want to do, post the message header and I'll do the analysis for free - provide you with the email address to send the complaint to.

With the nigerian scam type messages, the reply-to address is usually a valid address, since they want to hear from you and begin the process of scamming you for money. With spam, the reply-to is usually a bogus address or an inocent victim.

Since I run my own mail server at home, I usually put a block on the sender's network address/domain name, then I send them an offensive "******* you" type message and not even bother with sending a complaint to anyone.

Unfortunately, there is so much spam on the internet, most complaints go unattended. Additionally, an increasing amount of spam originates from regular PC users whose computers became hijacked by spam operations rings - the PC user doesn't even know they are sending spam until their account gets suspended by their ISP!

Anyway, post the header, I'll help you out.

They're not only hitting EBay. They're also hitting on ads in various car and car parts For Sale boards. I've received 3-4 within a couple weeks.

If you have some time, read this. It's long, but worth it.

I have been getting 3 or 4/month for at least 10 or 12 years. They used to send out personalized letters on embossed letterhead with very sophisticated tales an in perfect English. Nowadays almost everyone in the Nigeria is spamming scams and the quality has really tanked. Most can't even send an intelligible message. Kinda sad in a morbid way.

I haven't received any for a while. I usually reply with" a eat some pork" in a sexually explicit way. At least I get a little bit of satisfaction when I picture the look on their face when they read it. BIG LETTERS, blood red. Dan
