Nitrous and cylinder pressure

Being new to nitrous I'm learning as I go. I got the install correct. A couple of questions. Its apparent that if the bottle isnt real close to 900 psi you wont get the expected results. At the track Saturday, my bottle was at about 700 psi and it seemed the car ran slower. I'm guessing as I set the timing retard for the nitrous shot that the engine didnt like it when less N2 being introduced.
Is this anyone's elses experience?
Also, I have a 10 lb bottle and I'm finding out that the nitrous will only last about 56 seconds before its no longer effective. Does that sound about right?
Thanks to anyone who can lend some advice. I appreciate your help up front.

Thanks
Brian
