Nnnnoooooooo

I never thought I would say it but........I have to get a import japanese car! My parents were talkin to me tonight and I gave them my wish list for my birthday in May, and they looked at the list and said they dont think Ill get any of those but a 300zx or a late 80s to the newest rx7 . THIS SUCKS! They told me I need a car that can get good gas mileage (over 20mpg in city). I am very pissed off , they are even sayin now I can only drive the elky on weekends and friday. The only thing is these cars have plenty of mods for them so I can still be a quick car and not have the fart can sound.....still dont make me feel much better though

I don't see the problem! a lot of guy here have import cars. that get 20+ mpg to go back and forth to work. Heck I got a mini van that get 25- 30 mpg, and the play things for the week end. Heck all the gas money I save. goes to the playthings.
So if mom and dad want to buy you a 300zx and you don't want it sent it my way.

A domestic gets good fuel mileage. Have you considered something like a Grand Am GT or a Grand Prix GTP? My daughter just bought her first car, Oldsmobile Intrigue, 3.5 OHC Northstar variant, sporty and over 27 mpg. Plus dual airbags, abs and 4wdb.

Buy American for Pete's sake! Any 4 cyl. domestic would be better then an import. My '00 Monte Carlo SS gets almost 27mpg... You'd better check insurance prices on that 300zx b4 you commit to it also.

Lucky you!
I had to buy my first car, a 1962 Caddy.... It didn't run, so i bought another one that did, a 1977 ElCamino and it only ran half the time!
It was a constant battle for me to keep one of the running so I could have a car to drive......
If you want an old hotrod, I think your first investment needs to be in a lawn mower!

good grief, do a reality check....the line is totally blurred

Chrysler is owned by Mercedes...is that a German Dodge Hemi?
Mercedes is building Mercedes in the USA....is that maybe 3/4's American cause the do own Chrysler
Honda's are built in the USA and exported to Japan....is that Honda a "American" car in Japan
Ford did/does own a chunk of Mazda....does that make a Mazda a "half breed"?
B2000 Mazda was a re-badged Ranger...so what is that?
Ford owns Jag, now has mostly Ford drive train, body and the rest are English....does that qualify for "American"
is a Aussie built Ford an American car
etc etc etc

There is always the option of a 700r4 for the Elky. The .70 overdrive and lock up convertor should put you at 18 to 22 mpg

My 1995 Z-28 gets 23-25 mpg, if I don't run the hell out of it. My mother has gotten over 30 mpg with a Buick Park Avenue. That would be a big safe car for someone getting their license.

Don't look the gift horse in the mouth! Old saying, doesn't make but since, but be glad they're getting you a car. My Father wouldn't buy us kids a car, you had to get one yourself and get insurance. You're young and have plenty of time to get what you want while you're working. Also, it's good to have a cheaper running vehicle while you're building a cooler one!

I had to buy all 4 of the cars I have bought/ owned. My falcon will be a daily driver, and it will get around 20-24 MPG, if I ever do get all the bugs worked out, grantid I will need to run 93 octane. The '51 Chevy should get 10-15 MPG.
