Are you asking how it charges, or saying it wont charge. Looking at the back of your Alt., If it is a one wire. Looking at the plug the right wire connects to the Bat. terminal on the back of the Alt., the big stud coming out. The left wire connects to the Acc. terminal on the ignition switch. Then from the big Bat. terminal on the back of Alt., You use a #10 wire to Bat. terminal of solenoid on starter.
Now if you are using a Ammeter, you would put it in that wire, So you run your #10 wire from Bat. terminal of Alt, to plus side of ammeter, then you run the wire from negative side of ammeter to Bat. terminal of solenoid on starter.
If you have a volt meter you didn't disconnect any of those wires so it should be like it was.
Again I don't know if that did you any good, because I'm not sure of what you are asking. If not ask again, remember, as In anything you have to use the right terms and or explain as close as you can. When are are working with electricity, you have to explain everything whether you think it matters or not.
