no engine braking in th350

quickly and informative as possible....

tranny was leaking badly but shifted perfectly
pulled tranny to replace seals and gaskets
found clutch / band material in pan
rebuilt tranny and install B&M transpak stage 3 shift kit (with vaccum modulator still installed and connected)
flushed out lines and torque converter
installed tranny
added type F fluid as recommended

Now in drive trans seems to shift very soon from first to 2nd and possibly a bit soon to 3rd.
Manually downshifting into 2nd works
Manually downshifting into 1st doesn't
starting off in 1st (manually) trans automatically shifts to 2nd
Also in any forward gear there is no engine braking seems to go into nuetral unless to accelerate
checked cable linkage
checked kickdown adjustment
vaccum modulator is new and so is rubber hose
in drive shifts are firm but too soon especially considering shift kit so not as firm as I would expect

BTW this is my first tranny rebuilb and my 3rd shift kit installation. ! was a th400 and 1 was a th375 never had any problems with either one.

Any ideas??

pull the v-body and revisit the instructions. I believe the problem is there.

Not the shift valves , But with the detent regulator vavle or the control valve next to it.

IF the B&M kit has different springs ( Stronger) for the governor... put the original springs back in.

I found the problem much better now

When I installed the shift kit the trans was out of the car making some things easier and somethings harder. When I replaced the spring with the sleeve for the manual control valve there is no longer pressure on the pin that holds the valve in place. It fell out.... Replaced the pin with a piece of nail. ALL BETTER!!! I have all gears when I downshift and engine braking again also shift point for 1-2 shift is much better not to soon now. Hopefully this will help anyone else having similar problems.
