no fenders
hi i want to run my car with no fenders how do the police react to this and have many of you been done for not having any thanks for your time....

It all depends on States laws. each one is different. Some states you got to have fenders, others you don't. We can run without fenders where I live.

Real hot rods don't have fenders,,,j/k I think like Henry says depends what state I've been asked that a couple of times,built mine without fenders cause none came with it, 5 years ago. Never have been bothered, heck had a nice conversation with a highway patrolman once at a ice cream shop , he just said " Nice car ,have a nice day". But then again if you do get stopped for something " illegal" and the officer doesn't have any humor could be different.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you that is any better than the previous. I just wanted to say "Hey" from another VW guy!
It seems that a lot of the police officers will let it slide if the car is nice and not a rolling clunker. Just my experience. Bug-on

If you are making a spectacle/butt of yourself and you get stopped, they will write everything they can. If you are a butt, they can/will call the DOT boys to inspect everything from tire tread, headlight height, etc.
Even if it is legal, (most EVERY state requires fenders or mud flaps/ tires cannot stick outside the fenders, a-la 70s), it often turns into a tell-it-to-the-judge situation. You LOSE, and then you have to fix it, and then they are watching for you to screw up again. I only know of one who got a ticket. He was a smart mouth 20 yr old in a bright orange car, no mufflers, no insurance, no license plate, showing his *** smokin the tires, and he ended up selling the car a week later to get the perpetual cops off his ***. In Canada it is illegal in every province to drive without fenders. There are a couple of T buckets around here with no fenders. One is a customer transport for a local garage. As long as you are not leaving a rooster tail in the rain or throwing rocks through windshields. The police seem to look the other way.

For something that minor, I would find out how illegal it is by driving without fenders. Even if it is illegal I doubt anyone stops you frequently.

That's kind of like the promiscuous girl that went with every guy, to see HOW pregnant she could get.

Local cops can ??? ...... LOL..... not in this neck of the woods...
You'd have to find a DOT Trooper, but I wouldn't go see him driving in it, he might be in the mood to give you a "fix-it-now" warning.
