No fire to plugs

I have a 1986 sbc 305. I did a basic rebuild but added a cam and headers intake and carb. Anyway i have had the car running for about 1 month now i only have about 100 miles on the engine. today i was on the highway headed to school and the car just dies. I try starting it and t wont start i would not even hit. I towed it home and after school i started trying to fix it see whats wrong. I figured out its not getting any fire to the plugs. The distributor is rebuilt the cap, rotor, and coil have a bout 100 miles on them then today i got a new module and ignition pick up coil. Still nothing. I tried a coil out of a engine that ran so that i new it worked but i still don't have any fire. could someone tell me what is going on? Yes i checked and there is power going to the distributor. I don't know what year the dist. is but it is a big HEI not the small one. I have tried every thing i know some one please help all suggestions welcome.

So fire is getting to the distributor, but not going thru the distributor, is that correct?

Have you tryed jumping the distributor directly from the battery?
