Do you mean it will not come out of 1st gear? Shifts into 1st but does not shift into 2nd, 3rd or reverse? Does it have TH350 or TH350C with lockup torque convertor?

Does it have park and neutral or not?

I am not transmission expert, but I have seen some weird things with them. Linkage slipped, linkage bent, something slipped inside the pan where the linkage hooks up, on an older 350 I once saw the little "S" hook fall out in the pan and it would shift to whatever gear it wanted to going down the highway (even reverse!).

I even saw one once where a valve body bolt was working itself loose. Every time it would come out a little further, they would lose a gear. first park went, then reverse, then neutral, and then it started on the forward gears. It just happen to be above the linkage and was blocking it.

Has this transmission or the steering column been worked on recently? Something could have been hooked up incorrectly.
