Doc here,

A bad alternator can cause a battery to discharge beyond the point of return..if it (the battery is bad enough)..

Lack of DC power to the Car is generally caused by:
  • Battery cables loose, corroded or un~serviceable.

  • Dead battery , charge at 10 amps for 12 hours out of the car.

  • Blown fuse links, inspect and replace as needed.

  • loose fan belt. tighten as required.

Does the rest of your electrical system seem to work ok? If you're only having issues with lighting then I'd suspect the head light switch or maybe a blown fuse (or fuses). Do you have tail lights and no brake lights or no lights back there at all?

As far as the bald alternator goes, I don't think I've ever seen one that actually had hair...

Doc here,

Does it start? Have Wipers? Have Heater? horn works? Have a Radio?

Your first post leads the reader to believe that the car is without power everywhere..if this is different, then you have a different set of problems..

If just the lights are not working, check each fuse first..

Then check the headlight switch.

Check the column plug at the bottom of the steering column plug for bad, or dirty pins or loose fit.
