No overdrive in 86 Fiero !

Hi guys !!
we are fighting a new problem !
Hi guys ...this is the problem
we have a problem with a 86'Bird and we replaced the solenoid that activates the "4th gear" OD , We tested it following the Chilton's book procedures and with the ECM every thing its fine!
So maybe we think that some valve its stuck in there ...we are rollin at 60 mph still in third gear !!!
here there its pic of the solenioid but we are not sure if we connected that thing on the right side...what's that ?
thanks !
here is a pic of a similar solenoid
THANKS !

Its not actually another gear, it can feel like it but what its doing is locking the torque converter.
The connector is close to the shift cables, you should also see the wires going to the speedometer sending unit.
If the solenoid has been replace recently it could have been wired back wards. I have heard that some of the aftermarket replacement ones had the wires wrong.

If you have to replace it here is a good article

86bird is a Fiero?
I believe the trans is a TH125C. How do you know which gear it is in while you drive?

Probably because of the Pegasus
My first Fiero wouldn't lock up until I replaced the speedometer, then it started working.
My second one needed the solenoid fixed but I never drove it on the highway so I just left it unplugged.
All the rest have been standard shift cars so I haven't had to worry about it.

The computer is going to command it ON(locked up) over 40 MPH's, if it does not "Lock Up", it could be an internal problem in the trans, or the solenoid is hooked up back wards, also a false reading (computer) vehicle speed sensor could do this.

The torque converter could be at fault, but I have not seen this yet on one of these.

There should be a switch on the brake pedal to unlock the converter when the brakes are applied, it could be out of adjustment or not working properly.
This is going from memory, I don't have access to the manual today.
