i have a 700r4 transmission which ive just got rebuilt it works fine except theres still no reverse the transmission suspose to be a 84 but the guy that rebuilt says that it has to be a 90 model because of the 5 solenoids and he says thats why it wont go into revers because it needs a computer to tell it to go in reverse please help

year of the trans is the first number small stamping code on a flat spot on the pan rail or on bellhousing outside flat edge


for example if it starts with 0 then its 1990

87 and up are the good ones and have an aux valve body inside the pan

87-93 or so are the good updated ones without computer control

all cars and truck and full size G series vans, and s-series blazers and pickups also\

some caprice and all vette ones are shorter length tail unique, about 1.5" or so shorter.

so watch out for that.

no reverse could be one of several issues,. internal linkage problem. or bad valve or valve seal in the valve body, or something else.

or was it actually built without reverse capability?

700s do not have 5 solenoids. They only have one solenoid which fits into the pump near the valve body.
