no spark at coil

I have a 71 elecamino stock 350 stock distributor and points i let the car idle for 10-15 minuets it died i have no spark i have a dim light at the positive post on the coil.I checked the spark at the coil wire to ground about half inch away no spark 2nd coil,could i have fried my points any help thanks very much that dim light goes on when the key is on Dale

Check the dwell it should be 30*-32*. Make sure you put a little grease on the rubbing block. Also check distributor shaft if it loose. You should read around 9 volts at the pos terminal of the coil when the switch is in the "on" position and 12V when you crank the motor.

It could either be the points or the condenser. If you have tried two different coils, it fairly safe to say it's not the coil. Check with a voltmeter at the coil + post and make sure you have 9+ volts. If you don't, there is a problem with the wiring. You could "hotwire" it just to see if it will start. Just hook a wire direct from the + post of the battery to the + side of the coil. If it starts and runs, you will have to pull that wire to kill the engine.
