No Start :(

The other day I went out to get some food and the car turned over like normal but it didnt want to start so I let off the key and pumped the gas peddle once then turned the key agine and nothing happen? I tryed agine still nothing. I just shruged it off and took my wifes car insted. I'v never had any problems with starting the car. So today I went out took the starter off and got a new one (29.99) and put it on there (I would just like to add chevy picked or horable place and way to put a bracket in). I went and turned the key and nothing agine. I made sure all my wire conections were clean and tight. I gave up at that point and here I am. First question is my old starter had two connections on it. The big one where the batt wire conected and a smaller red wire with a whight thing with a small peice of mettle sticking out of it. The other post just had a small post with a black wire conected (I'm asuming ground). Now on the new started there are three posts. One big and two small. I hooked the big one up just like it was on the old one and I tryed the black wire on eather of the posts and it wouldent kick in. At this point I'm a little lost as to what to do and am realy hoping some one can help me figure this out. I also tryed all the above combinations with the car in nutral to check for a bad park sensor (I think thats it).

If you hit the key and the car turned over then WHY would you replace the starter? If it does not fire then you have no spark. If you hit the key again and the starter did nothing then it sounds like a bad connection from the distributor to the starter somewhere. The first place to look should be on the topside of the engine to make sure all wires are in good shape and tight. Then check the wires on the starter to make sure that they are all tight. Sounds like you have other problems than the starter. BTW where did you pick up a new one for $29. I've yet to pay less than $80.

Yep autozone is where I got mine. Every thing is good on the starter exept im still unsure which post that black wire is actualy suposed to go. So where exatly dose the wire from the ignition go? Just from the ignition to the starter? Also is it and positive wire or ground?

Well fiddled around with it today some more. About the only thing left that it could be is the key switch. For now I just jury riged it up with a wire in the engen compartment to start the car for now with. I removed the steering wheel but there was a plastic ring in the way that I coldent figure out how to remove it to gain access to the key switch.
