Post noisy gear drive

So , i would like to know, do those noisey gear drives, drive you nuts after a while? I mean they sound way cool, but does the noise get old after awhile? I know they make quiet ones as well. And i think the average street engine does not need gear drive. Is that right?
Just wondering.

I had a gear drive in my daily driver,I drove 20 miles to work every day. It didn't seem to bother me as much as people telling me I was low on power steering fluid.HA HA! However, anyone who knew what that sound was loved it! It really turns heads when people hear it. I would recommend it for the sake of consistent valve timing, quiet or noisy. I hope this helps you out. BstMech

Whew! Now there's some feedback! How much hp deos a gear drive rob?,is it worth worrying about?, show us some E.T.s or a dyno printout. Do you have any floorboards or a firewall or inner fenderwells?, because the noise is not that bad, I have had exhaust resonance that was worse. See I didn't scream one time.

I once had the loudest gear drive ever my exhaust was quiet and all you could hear was the whining of the gears even if i was three blocks away, but it was all worth it when i got pulled over once by a cop who thought he would let me know that my transmission might be dangerously low on fluid. I nodded my head and told him I would get to the nearest Oreill's and by a case of Type F.

I don't care for them...at all.

Now belt drive? That's cool. I call them cat eaters because if they climb up under the hood at night to sleep on your warm engine...MEOW!. A quick bang on the hood before you start her up is a good idea.

Seriously the belt drives are great because you have all the adjustability of the gear without the noise and it's out in the open if you want to change something. Did I mention that it looks coooool.

Bulleimer, went to the bike swap meet in Monroe last week end. Got wet then.(Your side of the mountains) It has not rained on this side of the mountain(My side of the mountains) in ages. I finally got the mold on my feet and back to stop growing after i moved over here.
Thanks for the input. I got a project motor in the side yard i want to do something different with. So askin questions.I could explain i want to use a gear drive only because i never have before. I travel back aand forth over the Mountains to your side quite a bit. I was askin how sane you would be after 5 hours of listening to the gear whine. And of course never having done the gear drive thing before it would have to be a noisey one!!!!
As for the yelling thing ment no harm, i was so new some one had to tell me that caps ment you were yellin!!! I didn`t know.Hea , i still don`t know nothin!! Later

I have a quiet gear drive and I like it. I know a few guys who have the noisy drive and they hate them because of the noise. In most cases it's with a car that is not as loud as the gear drive.

I had a noisy gear drive in my 69 camaro, I got a kick out of it for the first few weeks of driving it cuz alot of stupid people would think it was supercharged!!! It definatly gave me a little respect on the street. But after a wile, It did start to get pretty annoying, especially at the drive through at Wendy's where I had to shut the damn car off just to hear what was going on. I took it out and put a double roller timing chain in it, and I like it sooo much better, Id rather hear the exhaust and engine rather than some whine that drowns out the exhaust. Thats my opinion, but do what you like best.
