I don't know if this helps but I do know that KB pistons that I installed in my motor required more ring gap on the top ring due to their design. If the NOS system you want to install generates more heat it may cause the top ring to bind with bad results
KB pistons make more HP by reflecting heat energy back into the combustion process and, as a result, the top ring runs hotter and requires additional end clearance. Increasing ring end gap does not affect performance or oil control because normal end gaps are realized at operating temperatures. Failure to provide sufficient top ring end gap will cause a portion of the top ring land to break as the ring ends butt and lock tight in the cylinder. The broken piece may cause further piston or engine damage. http://www.kb-silvolite.com/speclear.htm#CHART
I know plenty of people who run the KB (includng myself) who throw nitrous at them and they hold up just fine, as long as you gapped the rings the proper gap and you run the NOS correctly. I know a guy who threw a 500 shot of nitrous on KB and had no problems with it. He is currently going to run an 800 shot wow. They will hold up fine as long as you have everything set up right.
I wasn't implying you couldn't do it...of course you CAN do it.
It's about pressure/fatique/strength. A cast piston does not have the strength of a forged one. Running a power adder and high rpms will take their toll on a cast piston over time.
I say if you're only going to make 2 or 3 passes every couple of weekends or so they should last a while.
Plenty of STOCK engines have seen a 200 Nitrous shot over the years.
BTW, don't use "NOS" to refer to Nitrous in general. NOS (Nitrous Oxide) is one company that makes Nitrous kits. N2O is the chemical formula for Nitrous Oxide. Plus it makes you sound like a ricer. Rodders say "Nitrous", "The bottle" or "squeeze"
put nitrous oxide systems in place of NOS and see if it sounds better to you. besides who cares if somone sounds like a ricer anyway. does it bother you that a civic ran a record 6sec 1/4 mile time. I know they cost a ton of money and are harder to build but it's the chalenge and need for speed that pushes us all. I like any fast car reguardless.
I will have to find the article again, but in the article it states that when used correctley a hyperutectic piston will actually hold up to N20 better than a forged one!!
Sound dumb? how does using NOS as a slang term sound any dumber than the slang term ricer. also NOS dosn't stand for (nitrous oxide). it's (nitrous oxide systems) get it right before you say someone else sounds dumb.
NO,NOS,NOSS so what,Its better than saying Nitro, but that does not answer the question in the post. Heres the site to answer the differance about between cast, forged, & KB pistons. Their is alot more reading on the site about building a NOS motor. http://www.kb-silvolite.com/page11.htm <img src="graemlins/spank.gif" border="0" alt="[spank]" />
Thanks 1bad80. I have read the site before and was looking for some experience from racers who have run the pistons. sometimes the company's try to make the products sound better than they are. I have also read the book "how to install and run nitrous oxide injection systems for maximum horsepower", and it say's to stay away from hypers and nitrous combos. but it doesn't say anything about heat treated hyper pistons. I'm just trying to get a little info on the board for myself and others to learn from.
reddwarf I'm just messin with ya. I read your other post. it seemed like your a little too ready to call or insinuate that someone is slow. or maybe you just like to talk $***. anyway it was fun.
this will be the last time I check the post so thanks to everyone for the input (even reddwarf).
