Nostalgia Drag Racing

I like to see the interest in the old race cars and racing the old stock style cars. If your willing to take a chance with your pride and joy, come on out to the track and play! At least support the guys racing, come out and watch.

Do you remember seeing the flagmans kipping sideways when a car came off the line squirly and started walking across the track? Not everybody had a posi in the old days.

Anyone from Ontario, Canada probably remembers the Cayuga drag strip in the 50's & 60's. Those were the days!

Drove my racecar to the track From MI to SC and inbetween.

I ran in till the late 60's. I got married and quit in 69. I had a 64 Impala SS, 283 punched .30 over and 650 holley carb, duel exhaust with cutouts and also a 57 210 chevy with a 327 n a powerglide my dad steup. Never did WIN but had a lot of FUN trying. Bring back the flagmen too!

Ran a C/G 409/57 Chevy 210 in 1967 in Md and Va. I remember getting to much traction compound on my tires one time, going up and after the tree, coming down and missing it barely, going up again and after the guardrail this time, coming down barley missing it too and finally seeing the other guy going thru the lites. He got the win, I got the applause. Every run back in those days a roll of the dice but we had a lot of fun. The Nostalgia Drags are a blast to watch but I don't think I could drive something like that again. It scared me a lot of the time back then, I'd probably have a heart attack now.

Cayuga is still there, but do you remember "Toronto International Dragway" near Georgetown. Opened in 69, closed around 75.

Now Cayuga has adopted that name.

Good old Georgetown

I use to race my 69 Mustang there in ET 2. So close to home, that was great!!!! Saddest memory was watching Dick Harrell loose his life there! I remember seeing Big Willy there from California. Ive got a bunch of pics from those days! Marty

Re: Dick Harrel

Yes you were right, it was the front tire! Somebody the other day said he was running used tires on the front. Dave Pratt from Karbelt back then booked all those guys for T.I.D. He had all the pics after the crash. I never wanted to see them. Your right they let the track waste away for all those years!!!!!! People that lived close by were always complaining bout the noise. Thats Canadians.........always whining!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have three nostalgia events @ Famoso every year, two Good Guys and the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion. I rarely miss any of them.

I was lucky enough to see wild Willie race last weekend. He was at the night fire nationals. it was sweet. All the nitro cars were nostagia front engine rails. Wild Willie's car was so squirly but fast. it looked like the most insane ride ever.
