1.72 ??

I don't think that the "Camel" hump heads ever had 1.72 intake valves, but only 1.94s and 2.02s--- I could be wrong, but ONCE I thought I was wrong, but found I was only mistaken...

How 'bout posting the head casting numbers..
I don't think you have double hump heads with 1.72" intake valves..

There were some early "power pack" style heads that had 2 humps, but not the "big" humps like on the so-called "fuelie" heads. They were CANADIAN I believe and would have CANADA cast into them somewhere. Or, they could be early truck heads. Do these heads have accessory holes? Or, maybe my cerebral axions and dentrites are'nt synapsing very well anymore. BUTCH.

There were NO 1.72 valve camelbacks. The power pack heads had a triangle on top of a rectangle marking, and are usually 896 or 520 castings.

Yes, what are the casting numbers.

Also, if you have 1.94" heads, I would leave them as is. I've read that the larger valves actually hinder the intake unless it is unshrouded. My machinist won't unshroud the 2.02 conversions because he says the chamber walls are too thin at that point and it will lead to cracking problems.

You should also consider what you want out of the vehicle and what the rest of the engine is.

Any old heads,

when you install

hard exhaust seats,
install larger valves,
new guides,
throat, blend, and bowl port (or more),
machine spring pockets
machne guides for seals
install rocker studs and plates,,,,

you have almost paid for a set of GOOD aftermarket heads. And the old heads still won't produce the power of new style heads.

Something about silk purses and pigs.......????

Here's another guess after looking at some heads on that auction site;#354434 heads that have "2 humps", 1.72 intake valves, 60cc chambers and were available 75'-79' on 262-267-305 sbc engines. Course they have mounting holes too and are light weight castings. Did I win? BUTCH.

3917293....67-68...307/327......75cc chambers
These aren`t double hump heads, these came on base 307/327 engines in the 60`s. There not performance heads by no means and adding bigger valves really won`t help them much since they have such a small port, these are designed for low end torque and not much else. Good thing on your engine is you can use a better set of heads, add a decent cam and timing chain along with a 4BL intake and it`ll wake up nicely. I`m soon to have my vortec heads and intake for sale, let me know if your interested.

Vortecs would really wake that 327 up and your compression will be around 9.5 to 1, low enough you can still run pump gas with a fairly mild cam. Put the Comp 268HE or something similar in it and it should run pretty decent. It won't be super fast but it won't be a gutless slug either.

I Have that cam(CC 270H) in a 350 with 10.5:1 compression. It shakes. It doesn't shake anymore until I get some stuff fixed on it. It wont shake your teeth out but you can't ignore it even if you tried. I like it.

If you find some camel humps, you`ll spend more or just as much rebuilding them that you would for a aftermarket set of heads. The hump heads are old technology. if you race someone with a equal set up as yours only they have vortec heads or aftermarket heads, your gonna get your doors blown off. Typical vortec heads make about 30 horses more, aftermarket heads make around the same amount more depending. I stopped wasteing my time on hump heads after the first time I used vortecs. I have 2 sets of hump heads I`ve been trying to sell for months that nobody seems to want, since everyone just about wants Vortecs.
