Not much luck with 'Binders but great luck with GMCs

Here I am at my regular evening job at the liquor store, and one of my customers pops in asking me if I knew anyone looking for a truck. Of course I had to ask about it, and he says it's a '92 GMC 4X4 1500, 4.3, 5 speed standard cab. He then informs me that he'll take $60.00 for it!!! What can I say, I bought it sight unseen, and had a friend bring it to me to look at All I could find was 2 very small holes in the front fender, and a tired engine, not dead but older. (needs valve seals) Some people just need the drink more than anything else I guess Too bad as he is a nice young man.

In the late 80" and early 90's, I had numerous opportunities similar to the one you just described...At first I felt bad about doing the deals when I knew that every dollar I would pay out would be used for exactly what the fellow you mentioned was without a doubt going to use the money he received from the truck. Then someone made things clear for me and told me that if I didn't do the deal, it would be somebody else so I might as well go ahead and do the deal. As it turned out, the old adage of birds of a feather came into play and soon his buddies where contacting me to make deals for the week end. Several good deals that come to mind where 5 new Cragar SS Mags with 5 wide BF Goodrich T/A's mounted on them for $50 and a 4 year Trans Am needing a Hood, Front Bumper Cover and a Right Front Fender for $600.

So just remember if it isn't you, it's somebody else.

Ray

I do agree wholeheartedly and I really don't feel too broken up about it either. I actually needed another daily driver as my '83 has so much rust I was beginning to think that was the original colour. I am retiring the old truck tomorrow to yank the engine for my 1953 International R130. That will suffice until I find a diesel for the old 'Binder then the 350 will find its way into my other '53 hot rod.

Sent the red Tonka toy to a new owner and my Binders BOTH have 7.3s thanks to a bit of wheeling and dealing with more vehicles that were "donated" to me. I just picked up the second 7.3 in a retired ambulance and got started ripping the engine out today. (this one was delivered with both tanks FULL of diesel) I will also be pulling the 1000 watt inverter, vacuum pump, lights, along with the electric control panels.

I like the GMCs too....better looking truck than the Chevys in my mind. Always liked the Pontiac stylings better than Chevy. I paid a bit more than $60 for mine, but I only work at NAPA, not the liquor store.....

The GMC is long gone now, sold it for $750.00. I also got rid of the E250 Funcraft camper, traded it for another pair of Austin A40 Somersets. I also picked up a 1988 E350 Ambulance for a spare 7.3 IDI. another swap for something that was given to me a 2000 Buick Regal that I had to put a starter in.

Somebody please shoot me!!! Today I got another '92 GMC 2 wheel drive just for taking the owners into Edmonton to pick up their NEW Dodge. They said I could have it because they wouldn't be needing it any more, to sweeten the pot they even left the plate and insurance on it until the end of March. Here is "Nader".

I called it that because when they first bought it for $250 it was literally "Unsafe at ANY Speed" including stopped!!! Now at least when you get moving you can STOP!!!

Only if they are over a certain age your insurance wants it not the DMV... Unless it is from out of province or has not been registered in Alberta since before 1980 then the registry demands it Also there is no clean air or other emission testing done here . As for my getting so many great deals, it helps when I will do work on vehicles cheaper than any garage in town (I am a certified mechanic and do work at my home). Sometimes the vehicles aren't worth putting a lot into so I will get them for a song if not free when this happens I will put enough into them to make them safe to drive and run them until they are worn out or someone needs them for parts (I will not allow them to be put back on the road without a salvage inspection which I do not do)
.
