not really hotrodding, but has anyone worked with the ford 7.3DIT diesel?

just wanted to see if anyone knew much about the 7.3DIT diesel used by ford. i've got one in my shop right now that is in a school bus, and it is pouring fuel into the cooling system. so much that it is actually overflowing the surge tank. i've got a few ideas, but i wanted to get some feedback from people who might have more experiance with this engine. any ideas?

Dang! never herd of a Navistar engine doing that.
Must have a crack in the intake or somthing connected in the wrong place.

Good luck man.

frustrating, isn't it? this is a new one on me too. worked on quite a few of these navi's, but they all seemed pretty reliable and trouble free. if you don't count the turbo return leaking oil, or bad injector o-rings, or pintle press switch sticking!lol

checked out all fittings, lines, coolers, filters, ect, that could be hooked up wrong, but nothing screwy there. intake is a dry setup, no fuel in there, injectors and lines in the heads. no oil in the a/f, no loss of compression, and the engine runs absolutly smooth!!! it doesn't leak at idle too bad, but if you boot on it, the level in the surge tank rises, and it is straight diesel fuel. could i have an injector sleeve cracked or rotted through?

I don't think that inj pump has coolant flowing to it? Are you sure it's not compression blowing fuel in there? There's no place the two should meet! What year is it? Is it the ford or IH 7.3?

it is a 98 e 350 bus. ford version, with direct injection. i'm not thinking injection pump, but the brass sleeve that is in the head itself. i think it has access to coolant and oil as well as fuel.

Did a little checking, and yes, the only place the two would meet is the injector sleeve "0" rings, as for which cylinder, I guess you could shut down each inj. and watch a press gauge on the cooling system until there's no press. build! Good Luck Mike
