Next...
We initially thought it was the head so we bought new ones and fired the truck back up and the knocking was still there. The engine was a 307 bored .040 over. It sat for a year and I bought a replacement motor, a reman 4 bolt 350 with flat top pistons and it sat for another year. So it sat for 2 years till a month ago we, my father and I, pulled it out with the handy hoist I picked up from a boarded member. I also acquired and engine stand from the same member and put my "new" motor on it to get it off the garage floor. Once we pulled it out we flipped it over and pulled the oil pan and saw the damage. Said a little prayer and said it was a good little motor while it lasted. So I salvaged the heads because they were "new" 350 heads. And the Intake and carb, Edlebrock of course. As for the tranny, I plan to replace seals and clean it up and maybe paint it. |

Then...
Next was clean up of the engine bay. Now I don't have the cash to rebuild the truck the way I would like but I felt I could clean it up the best I could and paint a few things. So I have removed the fender wells and clean and painted one so far, and I have been scraping the engine bay and dousing with oven cleaner to get off as much as I can. That white stuff you see is oven cleaner. Once I get it clean I am going to spray it down with that 3M undercoating spray. |

1st pic is the motor.
2nd pic pic is my new Urethane mounts I picked up from Summit. 3rd pic are the "Race" mufflers I got from Summit also. I have now I dea what they sound like but at this point I figure anything is better that my single glasspack I was running. 4th pic is my Tach, also from Summit. 5th is the box of parts I am going to have vatted so I can repaint everything. The engine is going to be red and I am going to use stock valve covers. I would love to have some finned Edlebrock covers but these will have to do for now. I have some chrome "dress up kit" valve covers that were on there before but I am going to sell those. I am also going to get another air cleaner as well. Attached Images |
