Not so new member finally has a project

I picked up a 1985 GMC Safari van (4.6L V6) to use for dirt-biking weekends. It's pretty rough -- stripped interior, lowered too much, poorly maintained. But, it gets better mileage than a full-size van.

Oh, by the way, it's stretched 34"...

At the moment I'm just making it more drivable -- Rear brakes were non-functional; couple of annoying exhaust leaks; door locks were almost unusable.

The "extra" windows (created when it was stretched) are filled in with some kind of heavy rubber/plastic sheeting. The first part of the project will be skinning over those and the windows behind them. The rear interior will be for bikes and gear. Also, less glass means it should be easier to insulate against the desert heat.

The big plan is to raise the roofline several inches to add loading clearance for the bikes. Thankfully, I have help from an old friend that's done similar work several times.

Wish me luck!
