Not sure where to start on this one frame mounted master cyl
I was advised on and bought a frame mounted master cylinder and power booster. My setup is commonly used on rat rods from what im told. Ive got the brake pedal coming straight out of the front of the booster and it appears its supposed to go up through the floor of the cab.
my issue isnt really not understanding on how to get it together or even how to run the lines, everything is disk.
My issue is this there appears to be no room to put this in as designed. its a studebaker body (not really much metal), and an s10 frame. When I place the whole unit against the frame where it looks like it would be the best to get the pedal up through the floor. ive got about a foot ahead of the trans cross member, and the master/booster wont fit. if I go back behind the trans cross its to far away from the floor for the pedal arm to make to. Id love to firewall mount but the header, transcross, pretty much everything is in the way. cant tell you how many times ive layed under there trying to figure out how to make it happen. any suggestions?
My T-Bucket has much the same setup as you're trying to figure out. The MC mount is aft of the trans crossmember, the pedal goes up through the floor, pivots on a stud mounted to the frame, and actuates a pushrod which is made to reach the MC. If I wanted, there is enough room for a booster but the T is light enough and has enough pedal ratio that it is not needed. The setup I'm using is similar to this:
got a photo? im consifering skipping the booster to save room, hate to though. its good ot hear I can extend and put the pedal assy in front of the cross member and the unit behind it
No, don't have a photo of my setup, but I took a look at the website I referenced in my link above and found their instruction manual:
If you look on pages 3 and 9, I think you'll see how they do it on their vehicles.
Just as an aside, I notice they put a proportioning valve on the line to the front brakes which is probably not correct for anything other than something like a T with very slender tires up front - typically don't see those anymore due to ride and wear issues.
