The Quotables That Get Talked About For Years

I had the opportunity to work with some really talented folks through the years and gained technical knowledge. I also learned how to deal with the hierarchy from wise men.

Scenario, Plant shut down by massive power line failure. In the initial meeting with plant managers, line crew supervisor reports that we have the materials and manpower and it will take 3 days to restore power. Plant manager directs him to put every available man on the job, we need to be up and running in 24 hrs. Supervisor says it can't be done. Plant manager can't understand why increasing the manpower won't get the job finished sooner.

Line crew supervisor says, "When I was in the Navy, it took us 30 days to cross the ocean with one ship pilot, do you think that if we had 30 ship pilots on board, we could have crossed the ocean in 24 hours?" A Wise Old Lineman

My favorite beverage, coffee 8-}

A morning without coffee is like sleep.

I believe humans get a lot done, not because we're smart, but because we have thumbs so we can make coffee.

As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.

Sleep is a symptom of caffeine deprivation.

Decaffeinated coffee is the devil's blend.

A few for you to ponder....

"Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong".
~ Dandemis

"Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence".
~ Robert Fripp

"We could certainly slow the ageing process down if it had to work its way through Congress".
~ Will Rogers

...And one of my favourites, although I know not who the author is/was....

"I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realise if what you heard is what I meant".

got up real early this morning, Dave

that last one of JR's reminds me of something that Festus Hagan (Ken Curtis) said to Doc (Milburn Stone) when Doc asked him why he never learned how to read - - - - Festus replied: "Supposin' I was to go to work and learn how to... to read writin'. Well, how'd I know that the feller that... that wrote the writin' was a writin' the writin' right? See it could be that he wrote the writin' all wrong. Here I'd be just a readin' wrong writin', don't ya see?"

Since I retired, many of these kinds of quotes apply:

I have retired, un-retired, and retired again all in the past 10 years. I find the biggest trouble with having NOTHING to do is . . . you can't tell when you are done.

The best time to start thinking about your retirement is before your boss does.

I'm not retiring from life, just a job.

Advantage of retiring at 65; Most of the people that I owe apologies to are all dead.
Disadvantages; I now have to read the newspapers on my own time.

....and last, but not least:

Before retiring early from your job, stay home a week and watch daytime television. ( I STILL wont watch any daytime or even much evening contrived TV garbage)
