as novas are the same basic car from 68 on, i'll tell you a little story. I bought a COPO 70 Nova new Jan 1970, ran it bone stock till the snows melted in the spring, changed the intake and carb, installed headers, bought some 10" slicks and took it to the drags, ran fine no problems. I then removed the 402 and replaced it with a built LS-6 454 engine, 4.33 gears, traction bars and 11" slicks, made three passes at a good traction strip and the body cracked in the roofline where the quarter is welded and leaded to the roof, also where the quarter and door post meet, the spring perch started to tear from the rear end also, ended up using solid aluminum body mounts and a welded subframe connecter, this makes a much stiffer setup and things no longer cracked or twisted.

thanks, that's a bit faster than I'm looking to go. How much do traction bars help? Are they only necessary on a very powerful car? I have a mild 350 in it
