Nova hinge question

After 4 months of looking i found a door for my car. the only problem is it has welded hinges and mine are bolt on. Is it possible to use the weld-on hinge on the door and the bolt on hinge on the body and use a new pin.(did that make sense?) I'm tired of seeing my car like this. I've even thought about going fiberglass but that scares me.any help is greatly appreciated.

It should work just fine. I'll be tackling the same situation down the road on my Son's 70 nova. The original hinges are bolt on and the newer style nonvent glass 73 doors we'll be installing have weld on hinges. I'll use the needed hinge half of each to put it together. Bob

I went thru the same thing recently. The weld-on door just would not line up, so I ended up cutting the hinges off and converting to bolt-on. It is a bit of a hassle, but you'll probably end up having to do it. There just isn't enough adjustment in the weld-on setup. Measure carefully and drill the holes for the bolt-on hinges. Use a die grinder to hog them out to get your full adjustment range. The steel backing plates from the old door will have to be used. The new door won't have pockets for the plates, but you can still make everything come together. It took some doing, but it all worked out for my project.
