Nova Question

Alright my buddie and I are looking to build a drag car. He has an old dirt car that we are taking the motor and tranny from. He has a 355 with a 350 turbo transmission and a ford rear end, It's up to me to find the car. I have found an old Nova with nothing in it except a possy rear end. The body has minor rust spots around the wheel wells and I could probably pick it up for $600 (he's asking $700). So I guess what im asking is would this be a good setup to start with? And what kind of mods would it take to make this car respictable at the track? So please help me out, thanks

That's a unibody car (subframes). Relatively light car, but not very stiff. I'm not sure what you mean by "respectable" but I'm betting some frame-strengthening will be in order (subfram connectors, etc) and a bit of suspension work.

Overall though, I'd say it's a good start depending on what you want to do.

nova

novas make very good drag cars but not as good as a vega. with fiberglass bumpers, hood, trunk, fenders, and doors you can get them down to about 2700 lbs. maybe lighter. but you will need frame connecters and a full roll cage to make it real stiff. a decent well tuned small block can get a car like this into the 11's or lower but it wil not be cheap.
