Nova rear end

Hello,
I am asking this question for my buddy. My buddy has a 69 nova with a 8.2 rear end. Parts are really hard to find for it, and it is not as strong as a 8.5. So he was wondering if you could get a 8.5 rear end out of a 75-79 nova and would it bolt right in without any modifications. Or should he try to find a 8.5 out of a 68-74 nova, and that should bolt right up without any problems?

thank You

I have a 1970 Nova that had a 8.2 rearend in it. I got a 8.5 out of a 1975 Nova. Bolts right in with no problems. Go to www.novaresource.com move your arrow underneath where it says main page and a list of different links will appear. Click on axle codes. It will show you the dimensions of your novas rearend and others that will fit. 1968-1979 nova rearends are all the same dimensions. Hope this helps.

Your driveshaft may be an inch or so too long. I swapped shafts back & forth from a 69 to 72 Novas with 8.2 & 8.5 rears with no problems, but someone on a Nova board had to get another driveshaft when he swapped from 8.2 to 8.5. He said it was an inch shorter.
