You outlaw you!If the car has a tag but you dont have the title{it is legit isnt it?}there are places that will do a title search and if there are no known leans and the last registered owner doesnt lay claim to the car, they will send you a title for the car{I know one place is in Vermont, and you you get a Vermont title}.Otherwise you need to comb Ebay and look for a donor car,and keep the specifics to yourself.Word of caution,GM has all sorts of info in those numbers,so a 4 door vin number wont jive with a 2 door body and sometimes there is a differance in the numbers from a 100 series base model to a hardtop or SS,so look into that before buying a car for the tag.I know that lots of old race cars end up without titles and this is a problem in states where failure to register a car can make it become paperless,so you end up with some nice cars out there{how many race cars lead hard riven lives of driving on salted roads and parking at Kmart?}tha have absolutley no paperwork. The fact is that swapping numbers is illeagal in every state in the country,so keep your secrets to yourself because I know of at least one person who got bit in the ***** by this when friendships turned sour ended up with the police being tipped off,so do your deed in the dark of night and with rubber gloves on and dont tell NOBODY about it.Even if you own your car and nobody has claim to it,it is still illegal.BTW,you can easily duplicate GM VIN rivets by using 1/8" aluminum rivets and filing the correct grooves into them.Good luck.
