novice removing door handle??

need to change out interior door panel 74 pontiac.. does the handle just pull straight out to get off?

The window crank has a wire "C" clip ....you pry the handle away from the panel a bit and you will see it. There is a special tool, but a bent screwdriver will work too.

You can buy inexpensive handle removers at most parts stores. Essentially they slide in along both sides of the stud that the handle mounts on and forces the wire c-clip out. Worth the few bucks. Or, as Poncho said, you can use a slender screwdriver and try to get at the ends of the clips. It works, but it's a little more taxing on your frustration level.

Here is the correct tool.......only a few dollars at most parts stores...this one is a Snap-On ...........but the cheap ones work great too......
