np 203
i have a 79 chevy that i just bought...had motor and tranny rebuilt...got to looking at transfer case when hearing a "winding down" sound when coasting or light gas...back of transfer case is a 203...shifts with gear gear neutral gear gear... drive section was a 205( speedo cable on the right top side)...what issues is this gonna create and what actual function can i expect from this frankenstein transfer case?

Trying to figure out what you are asking?
You can use the front half of a 203 (which is the HI/LO part of the case) and with the help of an adapter plate use it in front of a 205. What this gives you is a much lower low. You have the 1.98 to 1 of the 205 for low then you can put the 203 into low (2.0 to 1) for a low low. Hope this helps! |

what ive got is the rear output and tail section of a 203 and the drive gear section of a 205...i know it dont make sense but its what i have...203 has no inspection plate and a fill plug, no drain plug right....and 205 has speedo cable on the top right, correct?

That is a 205 out of a chevy, should have a slide in out put yoke. This was in the mid to late 80s trucks.
There should be a date on the tag that is on the case, should be around the PTO cover on this one. The transfer case is an easy rebuild. Not hard to do but take your time as with any project. Last edited by NvrGrwUp; 07-27-2011 at 06:22 AM. |
